Wow, here is a serious surprise for PlayBook owners. Apparently, this was easily found through a changelog in a Desktop Manager update. We’ve been sent a beta build of the Android App Player for the PlayBook. It is a huge file, lags a bit, has no visible back button (you have to swipe left on the bottom bezel), but we’re told nonetheless it works. The app itself is controlled through a series of swipe gestures. This beta version is fairly old, so don’t hold it against them. You of course have to side-load the .bar file to install. Google search for DDPB installer to side-load easily.

and how do we install? It downladed a bar file on my computer but displayed garbage on my playbook.
Nevermind, Side-load it, should have read entire post.
How do we install Android Apps after installing the player?
OK, so installed, now how to use it….
I got a .zip file but renamed it to .bar….it seems to be happily installing. Hope I didn’t screw it up.
If you figure out how to use…please post!
I downloaded the bar file on my PC (not on my BBP)
Then after ….. ?
What does “side-load” means ?
How to install the player ?
It did up my playbook into a coma a few times, i think i will be unistalling (or at least not running) this.
Installed…
Now the things is how to get Android applications and test them
No comas here but it’s aggravating that you can’t go “back.” At the very least, it’s interesting to see what this is gonna look like. I wonder how current this actually is. It appears to have been built only a couple of days ago. If that is true, then we are still a pretty good ways awy from having an official release of this.
Read the previous postings from people dude and stop complaining!
In crackberry some are saying that two finger swipe left gesture on bottom bezel works for go back.
yup two finger swipe to the left on the bottom bezel takes you back
Is there a way to add the application. No point in downloading if apps can’t be downloaded.
apparently, email is also available.
The left swipe (I only used one finger) does seem to work. And there are several “native” apps on there. Haven’t figured out how to add any yet but I (or somebody) will…
just setup my gmail account on android player!!!!!!!!!!!
hahahaha, my playbook has “native” email client!
How are you getting the keyboard up? It doesn’t seem to like my playbook for typing in the Android player….
anyone know how to associate a device on the android market?.
android player has a keyboard of his own. it will popup on a entry field.
the back works swiping two fingers on the bottom left corner!!
How go back in android player?playbook dosen’t have any back bottom.
How to install a new app?
Wow! If I had a playbook, I would totally give this a shot!
I ended up updating the playbook last night and today im trying to install this android player.. and it dosent seem to show up anywhere.
could it be that the update was a security patch that dosent allow this app to be installed?
Has anyone been able to install this on the playbook simulator
