BlackBerry Considering Positioning BBM into Own Company

BlackBerry is making strategic changes as the company positions itself for a partnership, privatization, or an outright sale. One of these new strategic moves is reportedly to make BlackBerry Messenger its own company.

According to sources familiar with the matter, BlackBerry will create the subsidiary called BBM Inc. BlackBerry has already begun shifting executives to the BBM team, which you might have seen Alex Kinsella announce his new role with BBM Channels.

BlackBerry will be extending BBM to both iOS and Android next month (latest possible date is September 21st). The company seeks to spark BBM Channels as the new mobile Tumblr. Do you think BlackBerry should break up parts of the company in preparation of a sale?
