BlackBerry Desktop Software version 7.0 build 44 has been in the BlackBerry Beta Zone for quite awhile. RIM has finally released the update for Desktop Software officially, which looks to improve syncing of desktop apps.
Go ahead and download the new Desktop Software 7.0 here. Additionally, RIM released a plethora of knowledge base articles about the new update:
- Unable to configure Desktop Software 7.0 to synchronize with Outlook
- How synchronization filters function during two way synchronization
- When synchronizing future appointments entries sometimes appointments in the past may be transferred
- When configuring synchronization a prompt informs you that no Microsoft Outlook profiles have been created even if another application is to be selected
- When configuring PIM synchronization for Lotus Notes field mappings and filter options appear blank
- After synchronization with Lotus Notes contacts without a last name may have the first name placed in the last name field
- Information is transferred to desktop mail client when “Create separate entries for conflicting data” when performing a one way synchronization to the device

Downloading now….
I’d recommend waiting a while before upgrading. I tried it first thing this morning (Aus time) when I started my PC and it asked me to update and it updated but then failed to open. I went to the download link on the RIM site (same as in your article) which downloaded, but didn’t work. Then the page stopped showing the download link, then a second version was published but the install still doesn’t work properly.
I have downloaded and installed it a couple of times now and it continues to fail. I can’t find how to install the previous version either so I can no longer sync. After my last restart before giving up, Windows decided to do a critical update so I don’t want to roll my PC back.
I’m not sure how this got through Beta, but there are many examples on the Blackberry Forum site where people are having trouble getting this to install or work so.
Don’t update to this version. Large numbers of people are now no longer able to sync. It just sits there Preparing Sync Preview. Three hours later you have to kill it in task manager. Have tried just syncing notepad or tasks but get the same result.
RIM should have pulled this update down by now.
I have also upgraded to the latest version. After three useless hours trying to get it to start, it won’t! I also can no longer use older versions for some reason.
Please RIM remove this upgrade, and put up one that WORKS. I can’t sync anything with my Bold 9900.
This new desktop software is a disaster. Maybe its time to buy an Android phone.
It took me three or four times to get through configuration steps before the first sync. When I tried advanced configuration, the system hung each time.
The first time I tried to sync, the program stopped and never saw anything motion across the on the green progress bar.
Restarted the program again, and the sync started. This sync has been going on now for more than an hour. It took an hour to get to the Preparing Sync Preview state. The sync has taken my computer to its knees. PF Usage is maxed out, and is close to the limit. Rim.Desktop.exe is currently using more than 50% of CPU capacity. A Windows screen just popped saying that the available Virtual memory is too low, and is being automatically increased. This new program is a disaster.
Bring back the old Intellsync version, please. Now.
Another shot in the foot from RIM! I guess tht we’ll have the same long (sullen) silence from RIM as last year with the E mail outage. Gives us all time to spec out the competition and find a company to whom “customer satisfaction” and “user” aren’t unfamiliar terms!
hi guys,i saw in ths post tht many ppl are waiting for Nokia noephs (symbian noephs) to sync google contacts.i started to develope a J2ME client app to sync google contacts before selected contacts’ phone & email address, the reverse can also be done easily.as this is a J2ME app it works on Nokia & Sony Ericsson sets. But I tested in Windows set, but got an error after installation.the server side is in google app engine using gdata python client lib. There’s some work(which is on my to do list) to do to finish this app.So in this post, i wanna say to Marcus Foster, Product Manager, Google Mobilethat it will be very nice if i get some support to finish my ongoing project. like, i dont have many mobile sets to test the application. so it will be a great help, if i can get some simulator or something to test it. basically, any mobile set that supports JSR 75(File & PIM API) will (or should) run this app.if u guys want, thn i can provide the URL from which u can download the jar file.thanks a lot in advance.
Sync FROZEN on ‘Preparing Sync Preview’. Good Grief!!! This just might be the one to push me over the edge with RIM. I can’t take this crap anymore. Thoughts? iPhone, Windows phone or Android???
I am also experiencing sinc problems as well This upgrade is horrible BB, return the prior version of this software asap and get this problem corrected as a long time user, frankly I dont need or deserve this kind of crap from your company
Have same issue s mentioned in addition to public folder syncing I am unable to add public folder too sync
Same problem. 7.0 hangs on “preparing sync preview.” All BB can offer as a solution is Article ID: KB29903, which says, “In some circumstances this process can take over an hour to complete, but eventually the operation will succeed.” Really? It’s been three hours. Not too smart for a smartphone or a smartphone company. The desktop software has always been finicky, but this is a major goof.
My experience is the same as others although I have actually managed to wait it out until the sync completes. First time EVERY entry on the phone calender was duplicated, second time EVERY entry was deleted. So far I haven’t manged to get a third sync to complete. This renders any benefit to owning a Blackberry pointless as far as I am concerned.
If you’re bothering to read this at RIM take note: your customers do not appreciate being used as software guinea-pigs, and expect new software to be a significant improvement NOT a giant leap back.
Ironically my ‘phone contract is up today; unless this is sorted by the weekend, guess what ‘phone will not be on my shopping list.
