Blackberry Safe Mode.
Safe Mode starts the Blackberry with no third-party apps or themes, just like Windows. It makes troubleshooting or removing apps very easy.
To turn on safe mode, follow these steps:
Do a battery pull.
After you reinsert the battery, watch for the red light-emitting diode (LED). When the LED goes out press and hold the ESCAPE key until the phone finishes booting. Release the ESCAPE key.
When the phone is booted, you’ll see a dialog box telling you that you are in Safe Mode. Click OK.

There is a safe mode indicator in the status section of your home screen.

To turn off safe mode, just do another battery pull.

I believe that’s for older OS versions. For the newer OS version (6 and 7), the Blackberry Support website says,

“To start-up a BlackBerry® Storm™ 2 and BlackBerry smartphones running BlackBerry® 6 and BlackBerry® 7 to 7.1 in Safe Mode complete the following steps:

-Remove and reinsert the BlackBerry smartphone battery.
-Once the loading bar is displayed on the screen of the BlackBerry smartphone, press and hold the Escape key until you hear beeping or the loading bar completes then release the Escape key.
-When the Smartphone boots up the Safe Mode disclaimer listed below appears, click OK to dismiss the disclaimer.”

I’ve tried it on my 9860 and it works. The apps just force close every time you open them. I’m going to see if there are any memory leaks in Safe mode. Thanks for the tip!

No problem! Thanks for starting a useful thread! There are still lots of OS 4 and 5 devices around so your tip is much appreciated! Haha, I still have my Storm 1 running OS 5 and I didn’t even know that I could do that.

Oh, for those a little confused about the escape button, by escape key, I mean the back button.
