Blackberry Messenger to Stop on Saturday in Saudi Arabia?

ITP.net reported today that The Arab News quoted the Al Watan newspaper saying that the CITC wants the ability to monitor messages sent via the Blackberry Messenger (BBM) network. One of the selling features of BBM is the fact that messages are only saved on the sender’s and receiver’s devices, unlike email. ITP is saying that there are many rumors that the BBM service will stop today in Saudi Arabia.

RIM made this statement about the matter: “RIM operates in more than 170 countries around the world and respects the regulatory requirements of governments… RIM is investigating the reported matter in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and will provide an update once further information is available to share.”
