BlackBerry PlayBook 3G+ Now in Production; Set to Release in April

blackberry-roadmap-2012-playbook1

A ways back we exclusively told you that RIM was working to release a BlackBerry PlayBook 3G+ (not LTE) by April. We later saw some leaked specs on the model to further confirm it was 3G+. Now,  we’ve gotten wind from our source that the PlayBook 3G+ has finally gone to production.

We’re not sure if Quanta Computer company is still the one manufacturing the PlayBook models. What we do know is April definitely sounds like it could be a solid release time-frame. A recap of the specs on the BlackBerry PlayBook 3G+:

  • 1.5GHz dual-core processor
  • 43Mbps HSPA+ Connectivity
  • NFC ready
  • 1GB RAM
  • 32GB Flash Memory

I can just picture the wssareites and waiters at Swiss Chalet using these instead of their order pads to directly connect to the cash systems in the store. It would save a bunch of time, would be more accurate . and most important . save on paper. Now lets see what restaurant chain is going to be smart enough to bring these babies in first !!!!If you want more great ideas .. just ask. I got a hundred of them .Go Blackberry Go !!!!

can we put sim card in this??

  4. Gery

Will there only be a 32GB model? No 64GB (and 16GB) option anymore?

  5. @varun No,varun we cnt put sim card in this, and @gery it will launch with all three models 16,32,and 64gb..

  6. correct me if im wrong abt storage…as im not dat sure abt it

So doesn’t this seem like it will be a flop like the original. I have the original and I like it but it wasn’t taken by consumers very well and it looks exactly like the original and doesn’t have that much more in it from the original. So why would consumers buy it. I guess it will depend on pricing and marketing but I figured that RIM had an opportunity to do some good things with this and it just seems like a update.

When the iPad WiFi was released it didn’t have a SIM slot. And when the 3G iPad came out, it was exactly like the WiFi model.

So what’s so wrong about this?

RIM doesn’t have the cult following that Apple has though. RIM has to go above and beyond to appeal to the other companies tablet owners to get them to switch over. They also have to make it interesting enough to the average (dumb) consumer. They need to do something spectacular to make it appealing to consumers otherwise it will be another flop.

i need to see the price before i make a decision.

This is what has been leaked so far.
With HSPA+ radio, at least carriers will push it too.
I think LTE would have been better. Otherwise a faster processor is all it needed, really.
I wonder what new chip this is. Does it have an FM tuner?

Just watch the news. Read the reviews: PlayBook May Never Recover, RIM Playbook gets batlsed by reviewers, Playbook Could Force Drastic Measures For RIM. lol This Playbook will be a total disaster for RIM. And you know what I will take pleasure in watching that disaster happen because RIM doesn’t get it. they don’t get it at all and they need to have a drastic change of management. They need to hire people who can make the difference between crap and good stuff.

The New playbook needs more RAM, 1GB is way too low!!!!

    waiting for a 10 inch version with a stylus……..

I can see why some prefer the 10″, but the size of the 7″ really appeals to me as I like to have it with me where ever I go. I can use hdmi out if I want a bigger screen and the bridge feature really helps at work as I’m rarely in the office but frequently need to read email attachments while onsite.

There was a pic of one in the Playbook forum on another site which clearly had 4G on it. The owner bought it on ebay as I recall.

  13. mckillio

It definitely needs more RAM 1.25GB would be be enough of a bump 1.5GB would be even better. Is the GPU faster too? Is it clocked at the same speed as the CPU?

the bbpb will be with mmc cardslot, so there will not be any need to launch in variable size versions, there will be builtin memory( flash) of 32 gb and then you can add mmc card as per your needs. I think this is the best possible approach for storage for tablet.

there should be SIM slot, bb will not repeat the similar mistakes as it did in first versions.

BUT THE MAIN QUESTION IS APPS SUPPORT (THOUGH I PERSONALLY DONT USE MUCH APPS-BUT– THEY ARE DEMANDED)
A FULL ANDROID- APP SUPPORT can make this a much better then competitors.

RIMM need to release off the charts with specs. I love the playbook but when I look at the stock price OMG!!! step it up and for gods sake CHANGE THE NAME the size is perfect and the current specs still after 3 ipad or whatever else is out there ROCKS. It is not the hardware that lack it is really the apps. If you have a tablet that can’t access the top 50 apps why get the divice no matter what the brand. The most frustrating thing is to pay for a service like Netflix and NOT to have access to it on your device.

Most people don’t care about the amazing operating system. Just accesss to Mail, The web, streaming, accessing document shhh!!! microsoft, music and games. It is really simple. BB10 QNX whatever can I do the things listed above? NO, then we are where we are now. A device that has amazing software but no fuctionality. Yes then you will see people going to the store in droves and a device that is on back order.

How does apple get away with it.Well first they don’t talk about what is bad in their device. Flash, Camera most tablets have somthing they can’t do. When you want to get somethig done definetly Playbook. But if you want to pick up it to just bullshit around skype, netflix gaming it lacks. Come on guys, if you get a few apps this will be the only device I will ever need to pick up.

what i like about apple they have one phone one software. Wow!!! simple it may not do everything you need it to do but with their marketing and simplicity no wonder they are No 1 hmmm No 2?

In my world it’s Blackberry, Android, Apple but if windows steps it up hmmm!!! it is getting interesting.

This is fantastic, I’m glad to see more selection coming in the PlayBook. Definitely a more meaningful upgrade then the over-hyped iPad 3 release. It may not be LTE (yet), but I don’t really see a need for speeds above HSPA+ anyway. HSPA+ should be good enough for video conferencing (it would be nice to see SKYPE in their Apps line-up) and it’s widely available where I live: Canada. I think NETFLIX is a waste of bandwidth; why should I have to pay more for my data plan because some people need to watch the TV, or movies ALL THE TIME? Keep it up RIM, you’re on the right track.
