Through the legalization of marijuana, many a potheads and medical patients alike have been partaking in the consumption of the bud. Although the most common approach to the herbal remedy is still smoking the plant, a great number of people have been looking at alternative methods. Among them, cooking with marijuana has become widely adopted. Already cities like Seattle and Denver have mentioned plans for marijuana restaurants and food trucks.

How’s it work?

Unfortunately, you can’t just eat the plant to receive the benefits. Your digestive system isn’t able to digest the THC (Tetrahyrdocannabinol – the stuff that gets you high) , therefore you don’t get the effect. However, by following a few basic steps in this recipe, you can teach yourself how to make weed brownies.

What if I eat too much?

Keep in mind that each cannabis strain is going to produce a different reaction from your body. Also, each person can react differently to different strands of marijuana. For your own safety, consider these tips if you or someone you know has eaten too much:

  1. Citrus Fruits – Lemons, oranges, grapefruits, or drink either fruit’s juice.
  2. Consume Pistachios or Pine Nuts
  3. Inhale or apply pine essential oil
  4. Intake a bunch of CBD (the other agent in Cannabis, Cannabidiol)

What happens?

When asked about the effects of eating marijuana, our friends over at The Stoner’s Cookbook had this to say,

“Eating marijuana is a little different from smoking it. The effects last much longer, and the experience can be a lot more intense. The effects can take anywhere from 30 minutes to 2 hours to start. So if nothing happens for a while, don’t get too impatient and eat more. We recommend starting with a low dose, and increase it the next time until you are happy with the high.”

How much do I need?

Keep in mind when consuming Cannabis that some strains are stronger than others and each person has a different tolerance level. It is recommended to start at a low dose, but that can be difficult to measure each strain’s potency. Here is a generic guideline to how much pot you need for your brownies:

melting butter

The stoner chef’s essential guide to making cannabutter:

No matter what recipe you’re going to use (we will be making brownies), you’re going to need some Cannabutter.

What you’ll need:

Step 1

Add stick of butter to frying pan over low heat until melted.

Step 2

Add your buds to the pan and stir them in with the butter. Keep the pan on low heat for the next 45 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Step 3

After you see some bubbles appearing on the surface, strain the liquid into a container using the metal strainer

TIP: Use a spoon to press down on the buds to squeeze out all the butter

Step 4

Let sit in the fridge until ready for consumption.
