Ford has officially released AppLink, which extends an apps functionality to your car through voice or steering wheel. The apps, using your phone, connect to the Ford car using bluetooth. This allows you to use voice commands to control most of the apps.
Currently, Pandora Radio has been updated to include AppLink compatibility. This allows you to stream music from your BlackBerry and into your car. Simply say commands to goto a station, play next song, bookmark a song, and more. OpenBeak has also been updated to support AppLink, and the news app Stitcher should add support in early 2011. We’re certain more companies will take advantage of Ford SYNC’s AppLink developer friendly program to bring more apps.
AppLink in SYNC is currently only available for the 2011 Ford Fiesta. However, more Ford cars should have it in the future. To have AppLink added to your account visit www.syncmyride.com
