Record Skype video calls on PC with these simple steps

If you have a sinister intention in recording Skype video calls on your PC — do take note that for some countries, including the UK, recording such is only legal if you have no intention of exhibiting the recording to people other than yourself and the person/s involved or included in the recording.

With that said, did you know that it’s actually possible to record Skype video calls on PC? The steps are easy, and you actually only need two things to get it done.

First thing you’ll need — Skype.

Skype for Windows Desktop

In order for this to work, you will have to make sure that the Skype version you have on your PC is the Windows Desktop version, otherwise, it’s never going to work.

Fancy versions of Skype such as the Windows 8-version app will not cooperate with your recording tool.

If unsure, you can always head on to Skype’s website, click on the ‘Download Skype’ button at the center of the page, select ‘Computers’, and under ‘Skype for Computers’, select the ‘Windows desktop’ version. Download and install the app, and then log on to your account.

Pamela

The next thing you will have to do is to download Pamela. You can do this by going over to the official Pamela for Skype website. Once there, you will notice that there are several versions of the app available for download — although only one of them can be downloaded for free. You’re free to download any version according to your liking, but Pamela’s basic version — which is the free version — will work out just fine since it allows up to a maximum of 15 minutes worth of recording.

Once you’ve decided on which version to use, start your download, and install the app according to the instructions.

During the last part of the app’s installation, you will be asked whether or not you’d like to see promotions. Politely click no. After this, the app should be ready for use.

Recording

To record Skype video calls on PC, you will have to launch your Skype app first, and then make sure that you are logged in. Once the app is running, Skype will automatically detect the presence of Pamela, and at the top of the app’s screen you will see a message that basically offers you a tour of how third party applications work on the Skype for Windows Desktop app.

It is recommended that you take this tour so you will have an idea of how these apps are going to work on Skype.

Once done, you can start to record Skype video calls on your PC.

Extra features

Aside from its function as a recording tool, Pamela also comes with several extra features that should come in handy especially in conversations wherein important notes should be jotted down.

At the bottom of the app screen, you will see a notepad icon that allows you to write important notes on your recorded calls.

Pamela also has a feature called ‘Custom Recording’ that allows its users to record their own voices, or any other sound they deem worth recording.
