Update: We’ve received an update from RIM on the subject: “A limited number of customers have reported an issue where their device does not power on. We are actively working on a software update to resolve this issue.”
We’ve received word from one of our Verizon Wireless connects who says they’ve reported many BlackBerry 7 hardware failure issues to Research In Motion. Across the board, users have been calling into their tech support centers complaining that their Bold 9930 or Torch 9850 has literally died. Our source says RIM should soon be supplying a known issues report.
We’ve heard others have had issues with their GSM twins too, the Bold 9900 and Torch 9860. Basically, the devices brick themselves to death with only the red LED light to blink on and off. The devices won’t even properly connect to Desktop Manager in attempt to reload the OS.
We haven’t been told what the issue at hand may be, but all the devices RIM is supplying Verizon have a different sticker setup and are of course from a different production. The new stock of devices should have fixed the problem. Have you had any issues with your BlackBerry 7 device? RIM offers a 1yr warranty replacement.
