RIM Responds to Android App Player Early Release

rim_logo_blue1

Earlier today we told you about the leaked Android App Player that was found in a Desktop Manager update changelog. RIM has responded to this leak and have made a statement, here’s what they said:

“An older version of the Android App Player beta software for the BlackBerry PlayBook was inadvertently posted and has since been removed.  We recommend that users refrain from downloading and installing this software since it is outdated and non-functional in many respects.  The official beta release of the Android App Player for the BlackBerry PlayBook is on track for release later this summer.”

This explains why many users have reported having issues with Android App Player slowing down their PlayBook, among other things. So there you have it guys, if you downloaded, or plan to download, this you have to do it at your own risk known that RIM suggests you stay away from it.

I’ll wait for the Beta… never was much for wasting my time on alpha code software. But having netflix installed is temping.

  2. I can’t wait to get Android player! It’s good to know they are working on it and that they’re on track (hopefully). I hope to see more codecs addes to the PB such as AVI, VLC and MP4. Also, like to see USB hosting too.

Strange. All indications are that the leaked build was generated three days ago. I hope it’s true that it somehow was a much older build than that because I was starting to think they were way behind.

As for Netflix, I couldn’t get it to actually work on the leak before I removed the leak from my PB. Did anyone get it to work?
