Japanese users will have to use an English or other language version of the BlackBerry Z10 or Q10. Users in the country will not be able to purchase a BlackBerry 10 phone on their local carrier.
A BlackBerry spokesperson did confirm the company would continue to support current users in Japan. However, it would have cost too much to develop Japanese into BlackBerry 10 with Japan not being a “major market”.
BlackBerry marketshare has slipped drastically in Japan. Six months ago BlackBerry garnered 5%, but The Nikkei reports BlackBerry now only accounts for 0.3% marketshare.
