T-Mobile BlackBerry Bold 9900s Will Likely Not Get NFC

t-mobile-bold-9900-nfc

Here’s a little bit of sad news for T-Mobile BlackBerry Bold 9900 users. According to a RIM Near Field Communication (NFC) team member, it isn’t looking good for you to be able to use NFC on your 9900. RIM engineers were specifically told to write in an exception for T-Mobile phones based on the Vendor ID.

Therefore, no matter what OS you install, leaked or official, it will not open up the NFC capability on the device. That is, however, unless T-Mobile decides to allow NFC in the future. Any of you 9900 Tmo users upset at this? Or, do you not really care about NFC since it isn’t fully usable yet?

  1. For $300 it should have every available option that is included in the hardware. I expect that behavior from AT&T not T-Mo.

Not only am I teed off about the NFC issue, I’m also ticked that they would RELEASE a new phone without the wi-fi (UMA or whatever) that I’ve come to expect with my Blackberry, particularly WHEN THE UNIT IS FULLY CAPABLE. Like others, my user service at home is marginal, so I wi-fi connect.

I was thinking about upgrading to the 9900, but without wi-fi, with the equivocation on NFC, I am hesitating. Since I’m not eligible for the new signal enhance appliance they’re selectively offering, I think I’m done giving them any more money for the time being.

Just got my 9900 a few days ago and think I’m sending it back to going to AT&T (ugh). TMO is the last one with everything. No wonder they can’t get new customers.

As far as the WiFi(UMA) I don’t think that’s a TMO issue as much as a RIM problem. OS7.1.074 supports WiFi(UMA) and it works fine.
