Theme Your BlackBerry PlayBook with Latest DingleBerry Exploit

IMG_00000113

The DingleBerry exploit for the BlackBerry PlayBook isn’t limited to getting Hulu and a plethora of Android apps. The latest build, version 3.2.1, of DingleBerry is capable of allowing users to theme their PlayBook. The new Dingleberry exploit allows you to run custom scripts before your OS fully boots. One of the custom scripts you can run is a command to substitute your own custom images for images depended on by the theme.

Here is a tutorial to ‘theme’ your PlayBook. Your PlayBook must be previously rooted and you need to know how to gain SSH access. Credit goes to xSacha and the BNXTreme team.

1. Download Dingleberry 3.2.1 (or newer) from Dingleberry.it

2. If you’re not already, downgrade to Playbook OS 2.0.0.6149 or older and re-Dingle (to get all the new Dingleberry features).

3. Modify the start.sh file in /accounts/devuser. Insert the following code:

NAV=/apps/sys.navigator/assets/1024_600

for i in 1 2 3 4; do

ln -sPf ${NAV}/4g-LTE_$(expr $i + 1)_bars_sm.png ${NAV}/wifi_${i}.png

done

Alternatively, you can download a premodified start.sh from HERE and overwrite the existing start.sh in /accounts/devuser.

4. Reboot. You should now have the 4G icon in place of your WiFi icon, just like in the screenshot!

(The Android icons in the above screenshot are not from this method; instructions for that can be found at http://opensourcebb.com/2012/01/changing-playbook-icons-android-ics-icon-set-download/)

    Did you really mean to say netflix here, or where you thinking about hulu? I follow developments in this area pretty closely and have not heard of anyone conquering Netflix yet. Did I miss something that big?
