Following up to our added details to the currently known BlackBerry 10 A-Series, R-Series, and M-Series, we’d like to introduce you to a few new ones. We’ve been given a BlackBerry 10 codename file dump. Some of these we’ve already heard before, while others are completely new. For instance, we can confirm there is now a P-Series and S-Series. A few of the codenames do seem a bit odd. We haven’t yet confirmed whether or not all of the codenames are even still in existence (minus the ones already on the market). Though, we do know the P-Series is definitely scheduled for release. Here’s the current BlackBerry 10 phone codename list: Agosto Americano Anisio Aramis Aristo Astro Athos Cappuccino Kopi Laguna Latte Lisbon Liverpool London Naples Nashville Nevada Newark Newport Patagonia Rainier Samoa Sherwood You’ll notice the M-Series is missing. We mentioned before the Milan was canceled, or essentially indefinitely put on hold. You’ll also see there are many A and L devices. We’re to believe some of them are codenames for previous prototypes before the final revisions we’ve come to know. Interestingly enough there are two oddballs: Cappuccino and Kopi. Doing some research, Kopi is Greek for a type of sword with forward-carving blade. Perhaps the K-Series will have something to do with the A-Series given the Greek correlation. As for Cappuccino, Americano, and even Latte – your guess is as good as ours. Take what you will from this list. We’re still digging for more information on these devices. BlackBerry certainly has a long list of devices planned for the roadmaps of years to come. Keep it locked to N4BB.com for more info.

The recent announcement of the one million sold BlackBerry 10 devices re-lit my curiosity. As mentioned before, the sale for those devices is likely across the entire BlackBerry 10 device portfolio, and not limited to one specific device. BlackBerry has been pretty transparent about this year’s BB10 lineup. They at least have gone on record announcing six BlackBerry 10 devices pegged for 2013. Two of these devices BlackBerry has already officially announced – BlackBerry Z10 and Q10. You may recall the internal models for the Z10 was the L-Series and the Q10 the N-Series. Almost all of the other BlackBerry 10 devices have been touched on briefly. Though, there still lacks some of the finer details. Here’s a recap of currently known information regarding these devices and some we’ve just exclusively learned. A-Series We first heard about this beast of a device late last year by way of the ‘Aristo’. The ‘Aristo’ nomenclature is Greek and essentially is defined as “the best”. This is a fitting name. Though, it is just one of two devices. The other device, likely the CDMA variant, is called the ‘Anisio’. Also Greek, and defines as “unconquered”. The A-Series looks to be the true flagship BlackBerry 10 device. At least for the all-touch sector. The A-Series is rumored to sport a Qualcomm APQ8064 Krait Quad Core 1.5GHz, 2GB RAM, and an OCTA Glass OLED 4.65″ touch screen. R-Series The BlackBerry Q10 may not be released as of this writing, but that hasn’t stopped BlackBerry from working on an additional QWERTY keyboard device. The R-Series, with one device called ‘Rainier’ – for the volcanic peak in Washington – will be the equivalent of a Curve for the BlackBerry 10 portfolio. It is certainly not a flagship device by any means. The ornamental design of the R-Series hadn’t previously been mentioned. We’ve now have learned what it looks like. This low-end QWERTY will be all black in color – even down to the frets of the keyboard. There will not be any stainless steel siding like the 9900 and Q10. The R-Series is made purely out of plastic composites. It will be interesting to see if BlackBerry deviates from one OS fits all. Or, if they’ll introduce a ‘BlackBerry 10 Lite’ version for the entry-level BB10 devices. M-Series The elusive M-Series is said to be the BlackBerry 10 slider. We’ve known about one model associated with the M-Series – the Milan. Although, later it was learned the device was put on hold. The M-Series will apparently sport a 720×1280 screen resolution. Multiple design revisions have been on-going for the BlackBerry 10 M-Series. This is one device with little certainty as to when it will release. If the M-Series doesn’t release by year’s end 2013, then we should certainly see it drop by 2014. Effectively getting an all-touch device to be as slim as possible with a sliding mechanism has been the one big draw-back. This is what we know so far for the yet-to-be-released BlackBerry 10 phone portfolio. BlackBerry isn’t finished with amazing devices just yet. Even the mysterious 10″ BlackBerry PlayBook is still rumored to release this year. Keep it locked to N4BB.com, we’ll keep digging to bring you more information on future BlackBerry 10 devices.

*UPDATE* – We’ve been getting many inquiries into the source of this information. We were able to sit in on a conference call from AT&T to their retail management and Wireless Advocates, which includes Costco and Staples. This is the information that was provided during the call. We’ve received word that the BlackBerry Z10 will become available through AT&T on March 15th. This is the same availability date for big box retail locations. This is significantly more early than what T-Mobile was shown to release the Z10. As for Verizon Wireless, their Z10 release date is still up in the air, but could be as late as April with a white Z10 exclusive. Any of you AT&T customers ready to get the BlackBerry Z10? Or, will you be sticking it out until the Q10 releases?

*UPDATE* – We spoke to an AT&T rep who informs us that BBM Video Chat will only be available with the mobile share plans. This is the same requirements they have for FaceTime on iOS. While chatting with Niko, he discovered something interesting. He went to initialize a BBM Video Chat, but over the carrier network. Turns out, that’s a ‘no no’ if you’re on AT&T. The message reads that a user must use WiFi or ‘enable Video Calling’ on their account. In other words, AT&T will likely have a Video Calling plan you’ll have to add onto your existing monthly plan. Verizon Wireless does a similar shyster move by charging customers an extra $20/month for Mobile HotSpot usage. Granted, that does include an additional 2GB worth of data. AT&T hasn’t had the greatest track record with these kinds of BlackBerry features. Customers may remember that the BlackBerry Bridge feature was first blocked by the carrier. This was speculated due to the ability to use your mobile internet on the PlayBook via the Bluetooth connection from Bridge. Knowing that AT&T will likely charge you extra to use BBM Video Chat over the network, does that change your plans to use the feature? Or, were you simply going to use it on WiFi anyways?

We recently reported on the upcoming BlackBerry 10.1 update that Z10 users should expect in March. In the article I asked what users would like to see in the update. One comment was hoping for the, what seemed innovative, Cinnamon Toast feature. Turns out, Cinnamon Toast has been nixed by BlackBerry. However, French Toast is still there, which it can be seen in current builds, but it’s not quite as “cool”. We’ve heard the Cinnamon Toast feature was far from practical. Rather than give users a difficult and more gimmicky feature to use, BlackBerry decided it was better left go. If you’re unfamiliar with Cinnamon Toast, it would have allowed a user the ability to see a gradual “reveal” of information from a notification. As the phone is picked up and depending on its degree of angle it would determine the amount of the notification to be shown. Certainly seemed like a very innovative idea. But, sadly we won’t be seeing any Cinnamon Toast on BlackBerry 10. That “toast” has gone stale.

That’s right, the very popular Spotify app will be making its way to BlackBerry 10. I had the pleasure to have the app demoed on a Z10 and it worked flawless. Unfortunetely I wans’t allow to take pictures as the app hasn’t been announced yet. The app development is complete and all its left is for the developers to release it in BlackBerry World. Remember before you start sending random emails at Spotify remember that every developer wants to make sure they release their app at the right marketing moment. Its very good to see these major apps being developed for BlackBerry 10. There is a strong belief that when the Z10 releases in the U.S. all the major apps like Skype, Kindle , Whatsapp and the rest will be available in BlackBerry World. So here is to another great app making our spanking new platform ever better, Cheers!

Not all of the BlackBerry built apps will be making their way to BlackBerry 10. At least, not anytime soon. However, BlackBerry users who have grown fond of the BlackBerry Tavel app will be glad to know it’s coming soon. We had access to an early build of BlackBerry Travel for BlackBerry 10. Suffice to say it’s a very nice step up in terms of UI from the one found on legacy devices. BlackBerry Travel for BB10 lets you create a trip, make reservations, check and search flights, search locally, calculate currency, view weather and world clocks, and it has LinkedIn support. BlackBerry Travel has some of these features supported via Expedia and OAG. All in all, BlackBerry Travel for BB10 runs quite well. Though, things are still being tweaked and you can expect it to release soon. Until then, check out the photo gallery below:

With the PIM API, Research In Motion is allowing developers a way to integrate with the core information apps on BlackBerry 10 (Email, Contacts, Calendar, etc). 89Apps discovered that one of the PIM services is “Notebooks”, which RIM describes as: Notebooks let you create, store, and manipulate lists of actionable or non-actionable items. For example, you might create a notebook that represents a grocery list, which contains items to purchase. Or, you could create a notebook consisting of gifts you’d like for your birthday. You can use the Notebook APIs to add, remove, or update items in notebooks, create new notebooks, and so on. These Notebooks essentially make up what will be the Remember app in BlackBerry 10. There are essentially 4 type of Notebooks: Generic: notebook stored locally on device ActiveSyncMemo: synced to your ActiveSync account as a Memo (note) ActiveSyncTask: synced to your ActiveSync account as a Task (a todo item) Evernote: synced to your Evernote account Yes, you read that right, Evernote will be deeply integrated into BlackBerry 10. How deeply integrated? Evernote integration will be system wide. The account login is managed within the System Settings alongside your Email, Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn accounts. Since this information is out, we’ve been given the first photos of Evernote for BlackBerry 10. Have a gander and let us know what you think of Evernote for BB10. Thanks A Friend!

Cinnamon Toast We previously had the opportunity to learn about the BlackBerry 10 lockscreen. In those leaked slides, we had a small glimpse at BlackBerry 10′s unique notification system, dubbed ‘Cinnamon Toast’. Today we have further information on BlackBerry 10′s Cinnamon Toast and the new French Toast. The purpose of Cinnamon Toast, as the slide above points out, is to allow the user to preview messages from the lockscreen. With Cinnamon Toast, BlackBerry 10 will be able to progressively show more information on the notifications based on the angle of the BB10 device. As demonstrated in the slide, there are three variations of data revealed based on the degree of angle. The reveal is continuous and reversible. After you’ve picked up the device to reveal the full message of the notification, as you set it back down the information will begin to disappear in the same manner as it first appeared. French Toast Have you ever accidentally deleted something due to not first having a prompt asking if you wanted to delete an item? Luckily, this problem is solved with French Toast. The purpose of French Toast is to undo a delete operation. As the slide says, with French Toast’s ability to undo moderate deleted items there is no need for delete confirmations before the delete. This should make the flow faster and smoother, while still retaining security by quickly recovering from accidental deletes. The slide above further describes the interactivity of French Toast on BlackBerry 10′s UI. For instance, after an item is deleted the French Toast prompt will remain on the screen, and will then have a 3 second-timeout once the user touches the screen after the action. BlackBerry 10 is certainly an advanced operating system that will surely have a future outside of the mobile space. If the previous leaked slides detailing the lockscreen isn’t enough, you can see a live demo of it in our video of the BlackBerry 10 keyboard. Check that video out here.

So far, we’ve already received a small glimpse into Research In Motion’s 2013 roadmap. Although, it seems that roadmap may have been lacking some BlackBerry devices. The rumors as to when the first BlackBerry 10 devices will release are running rampant. Here’s the time-frame we’ve heard for BlackBerry phones in 2013: January: L-Series February: N-Series May: R-Series and S-Series July: A-Series The L and N series devices have garnered quite a lot of attention. However, little is known about the R-Series. We’re also now the first to tell you about the S-Series. The R-Series is said to be a next-generation BlackBerry 10 Curve. Whereas the S-Series is apparently similar to the R-Series, but will run legacy BlackBerry OS (OS 8 perhaps?). The last BlackBerry 10 phone to allegedly release is the ‘Aristo’. If you followed this leak, the A-Series will be the crème de la crème of BlackBerry 10 devices. Nonetheless, take these dates loosely. These are dates we’ve compiled from multiple sources, but without tangible proof. Thus, take them with a grain of salt for now.

Hot off the N4BB tip line, we just got sent this image of the first BlackBerry 10 smartphone. This device is what we outed as the BlackBerry 10 L-Series, which will launch first then followed by the N-Series. As seen previously in a video leak, the L-Series (London, Liverpool) will rock a 1800mAh LS1 battery. What was kind of shown in concept art from a leaked PDF, we can now confirm that the L-Series will be gun metal in color (looks like the rumored iPhone5). Quick look through the apps, you can see BBM, DocsToGo, Facebook, and the most interesting: StoryMaker. We’re guessing this will be the equivalent of iMovie (but don’t quote us on it). Additionally, we see the many different panes for apps, with the grid icon being the window for the last four apps opened. Nevertheless, we’re super eager to see this device go live. From what we’ve heard ourselves and within the media, the first two BlackBerry 10 devices are nearly complete. Which BB10 device are you most interested in – N or L series? Thanks you know who!

We briefly touched on this when we announced the first details on the upcoming M-Series (slider). Research In Motion will be making a 720 by xxxx resolution the new standard for the rest of BlackBerry 10 products. However, that is after the L-Series releases. Here’s a breakdown of the upcoming screen resolutions: L-Series: 768 x 1280 N-Series: 720 x 720 (1:1) M-Series: 720 x 1280 (16:9) It isn’t quite clear why RIM has decided to make the L-Series the only device with the higher resolution, but from there on out 720 ‘is the new normal’. What do you think of this change? Is 720 and adequate screen resolution? Discuss this in the forums

When we first showed you BlackBerry Messenger for BlackBerry 10 it wasn’t much to look at. Now, we have a much more rich looking interpretation of what BBM should look like on BlackBerry 10. BBM is getting a UI and UX overhaul by TAT Cascades. Some features of BBM will naturally be hidden from view, but with simple swipe gestures will be activated (especially for the more compact devices, like the N-Series). For the N-Series, BBM will allow for keyboard shortcuts such as C for new chat, T for top, N for next day, and S for search, etc. The BBM ‘user profile’ is also getting some needed changes with an easy navigation bar to switch between a users timeline, installed apps, and barcode: More confirmation of themes in BBM is demonstrated in the image below: BBM on BlackBerry 10 is shaping up nicely. Of course, expect that RIM may add or change things before BlackBerry 10. Nonetheless, it’s great to get an early glimpse to wet those palettes! What do you think of BlackBerry 10′s BBM so far? Sound off in the comments.

BlackBerry 10 will be using TAT Cascades to create rich looking native applications and UI. One part of this will be the Share UI. The Share UI is how it will look when you want to share a picture, web page, or other object to Facebook, BBM, Picasa, DropBox, and much more. Additionally, you can see the different level of controls for hiding potentially less commonly used controls. Looking at the slides, they reveal the TAT-built Facebook application. We can see already there are many more enhanced features than currently found on the native Facebook app (i.e. Image quality selection). The slide also mentions that the ability to ‘hide’ less used controls will be added to the Cascade Core UI by winter 2012. Nevertheless, BlackBerry 10 and its Share UI look to be shaping up nicely. BlackBerry 10 seems to have a core focus of social interaction and we’re sure the Share UI and other sharing components will be essential. What do you think of the way the Facebook app looks? Check out another glimpse below: Discuss this in the forums

We’ve told you about the L and N series BlackBerry 10 devices. It now truly seems like Research In Motion has answered the age-old daunting question “What will RIM do next in numbering? Have a 10000 device model?”. Nope, they’re going to have multiple models under one series umbrella. Today, we’re excited to reveal the first details of what is known as the BlackBerry 10 M-Series. Before we start, lets go back in time for a second. The first mention of any BlackBerry 10 device starting with an ‘M’ has been the BlackBerry Milan. The BlackBerry Milan was the rumored slider device, which we heard later was put on hold. Fast-forward to present time and it seems RIM has resurrected the slider project as the BlackBerry M-Series. What we know of the M-Series is it will sport a 720×1280 screen resolution. Apparently, the BlackBerry L-series will be the only device to rock the high 768×1280 resolution and here on out 720x will be the new standard. The M-Series will likely hit in 2014, as it is planned to release after the multiple N-Series devices (Nevada, Naples, and Nashville). We’re glad to see RIM still plans a slider BlackBerry. What also has us intrigued is RIM’s new use of alphabetical letters in naming the new series of devices. While we heard the devices received their codenames based on the cities in which their designers took inspiration from, they’re also in alphabetical order. Perhaps there will eventually be a BlackBerry O-Series, P-Series, etc? Time will tell.

The mythical 3G/4G BlackBerry PlayBook makes another appearance. We knew that a Sim capable PlayBook is scheduled for this quarter but we didn’t have definitive date. What we learned was , RIM has began to push these devices to corporate partners and some distributing channels. It looks like a good sign that we are getting close to release. This PlayBook is running Os 2.0.1.354. We also noticed that this PlayBook was actually a little “snappier” (probably due to the new 1.5GHz processor) along with NFC support and of course the ability to connect to a wireless network. I know people will ask, but unfortunately no signs of BBM on this specific device. Also, we heard that BlackBerry Protect will make its way to the PlayBook, but it wasn’t present on the current PlayBook OS. Are you excited for the 3G/4G PlayBook ? will you be getting one? check the rest of the pics below and enjoy!

When we first broke the news on the BlackBerry 10 L-series and N-series, it was shown that RIM would be using OLED technology for the touchscreens. In these slides, RIM describes why they’ve chosen OLED for BlackBerry 10 devices. We have copied the information verbatim. The absolute blackness of the OLED display can create a powerful illusion of screen and hardware blending. Use pure black wherever possible to optimize power consumption, prevent Burn-in, and as an aesthetic effect of actual black (i.e. no backlight). When there is no visual distinction between the bezel and the screen, a screen can use smaller margins. Selected core components, such as the Action Bar, will also be adapted to impression of a unified surface through a full black background. Instead of thinking of each OLED pixel as a flashlight, in this case think of each one as a candle. When you burn a candle it will slowly burn down and never recover. The higher the flame on the candle, the faster it will burn down. The same is true for OLED. Brighter pixels will burn faster with the additional complication that each sub pixel burns in at a different rate. Certain core components has elements that are consistent across most screens of the whole device. To prevent burn-in, we need to programmatically make slight adjustments of their contrast strength and potentially position over time. This applies to for example the Status Bar icons and back button in the Action Bar. In general, the dark an image is, the less power it will use. If you think of each OLED pixel as a mini-flashlight, the more flashlights you turn on or the brighter you shine them, the shorter the battery will last. Black themes and backgrounds are preferable for OLED-displays. White theme may still be used to ensure readability when focus is on reading content for longer time (Email and Docs To Go). When using white theme, color values of white backgrounds will be programmatically adjusted towards gray, by the device itself. Single core components and smaller areas will not be possible to automatically adjust with good result, hence they need to be adjusted upfront. There you have it on how OLED will be very effective at saving battery life in BlackBerry 10 smartphones. Will you like the fact that you won’t necessarily be able to tell screen from device?

Many have wondered what the BlackBerry N-series is going to be like. From what we’ve been hearing, it is essentially similar in size to the Bold 9790. However, the BlackBerry N-series will lack one of the staple features of a BlackBerry. There will not be a TrackPad on the BlackBerry N-series. As the internal slide above describes, RIM has found a solution to combine the touch nature of the BlackBerry 10 operating system with a physical keyboard. The solution RIM has found is to “augment the QWERTY keyboard with a streamlined touch version of extended keyboard commands.” You can see an example of this in the slide above where it shows both a word completion and umlaut selection overlay in the Action Bar part of the screen estate. The BlackBerry N-series is going to be one incredible device. The swipe gestures you’ve come to know on the BlackBerry PlayBook will be packed into this 720×720 square OLED screen. Imagine how you’ll be able to multi-task and murder some email/messaging with that amazing physical keyboard BlackBerry purists know and love. Let us know if you think RIM’s idea of combining the physical keyboard and on-screen typing options will be effective. Will you miss the TrackPad? Sound off TeamBlackBerry!

Have you been wondering what BlackBerry Messenger on BlackBerry 10 could possibly look like? Now you get the very first glimpse ever! BBM in BlackBerry 10 will be taking full advantage of the OLED screen. How will it be doing that you ask? According to the internal slide, RIM will be opening up BBM to themes for a very special reason. RIM has been and always will be about saving battery life. By utilizing a darker theme and colors on BBM alone, RIM says it will significantly improve battery life. With just a simple black theme, RIM estimates that battery consumption can be decreased by as much as 25%. Additionally, RIM says with further optimization to take advantage of the OLED screen, you could decrease upwards of 75% battery consumption. What do you think of the new look for BBM? We’re sure this isn’t the only way it will look. From what RIM has shown with Cascades, we may see some of those TAT animations play a role in the BBM UI. Nonetheless, it is great to see RIM working in every angle to optimize battery life. Let us know what you think! P.S. We LOVE that RIM is using N4BB green

BlackBerry 10 is upon us, as we expect RIM to make a formal announcement for the first device in August. Details regarding the BlackBerry 10 operating have been mildly out in the open. However, little has been known regarding the first BlackBerry 10 all-touch smartphone and the eventual physical keyboard iteration, until now. We previously stated that both the BlackBerry London and Nevada have hit final production. Although, these devices are no longer under those codenames, as we see displayed in the internal document above there is now the BlackBerry L-series and N-series. Here’s some of the known specs… BlackBerry L-series: 768×1280 screen resolution 55mm wide* 356 PPI Essentially, the BlackBerry 10 Dev Alpha already has the market ready screen. What will be changed is the final production’s form factor. If you’ve had the opportunity to use a Dev Alpha, you’ll realize the amazing screen quality. The BlackBerry 10 L-series will even beat the iPhone4/S’ retina display, but you’re eyes might not really be able to tell the difference. Additionally, the internal document above shows the UI structure of the L-series. Now you have an idea of all the measurements for icons and buttons used in the status bar, main bar, tabs and so on. BlackBerry N-series: 720×720 screen resolution 52 – 53mm wide* 330 PPI The BlackBerry N-series, which was previously codenamed Nevada, will be the first BlackBerry 10 device with a physical QWERTY keyboard. Think of this device as the BlackBerry 10 Bold. The first N-series is said to use OLED screen technology, but later releases may use LCD display. The internal document above also shows the UI structure of the N-series. Now you have an idea of all the measurements for icons and buttons used in the status bar, main bar, tabs and so on. We’re very eager to get our hands on the first BlackBerry 10 final production unit. If what we’re hearing come to fruition, RIM could push the BlackBerry L-series to market as early as the first half of September. The BlackBerry N-series is said to still be on track for a Q1 release in 2013, but we’re hoping it comes out even earlier. Nevertheless, keep it locked to N4BB for the latest breaking news! * The listed dimensions reference the screen size, not the device itself.

Although RIM will still be announcing the first BlackBerry 10 device sometime in August, the release date may be sooner than the October release we previously heard. We’ve confirmed with one of our sources that the first BlackBerry 10 slate device’s hardware has been fully manufactured. There will be no more revisions and that Qualcomm LTE chipset RIM was waiting for has been nicely built into the device. Therefore, we’ve learned the first BlackBerry 10 phone might make it to release in the first half of September. The BlackBerry 10 slate will have “a color never before seen on a BlackBerry”. The BlackBerry PlayBook was the first BlackBerry device to shy away from the usual all-black with chrome detail when first launched. It was first thought, from the leaked slides of BlackBerry 10 device, that it too would resemble the rubberized matte black color of the PlayBook. However, we’ve learned it will sport its own unique color at launch. And who knows, perhaps we’ll even see RIM release other color variations too. Know what else is really cool? The first BlackBerry 10 device with a physical keyboard, codenamed ‘BlackBerry Nevada’, has also reached final production phase. This means the BlackBerry 10 Bold is just waiting to be touched and drooled over by consumers. However, what’s holding up these two devices from releasing is the BlackBerry 10 operating system. While at the BlackBerry 10 Jam World Tour event in NYC, we learned that some aspects of the BlackBerry 10 operating system were not live demos, but an emulated version wrapped as an app. So while the hardware may be ready to go, RIM is still working to add the finishing touches to the BlackBerry 10 operating system. Additionally, it was told to us that what the world has seen thus far of BlackBerry 10 is only scratching the surface of all the features planned in its final release.

Research In Motion is gearing up to release its first BlackBerry 10 device. So far, we’ve seen a few leaked photos of BlackBerry 10 and even a prototype photo of the ‘BlackBerry London’ pop up. But when will a BlackBerry 10 device release? RIM’s CEO, Thorsten Heins, has stated we’ll see a BlackBerry 10 device by “later half of 2012″. One of our sources has revealed to us that RIM intends to announce the first BlackBerry 10 device by mid-August. The first BlackBerry 10 device will be touch only and we’re told has a projected market release for first half of October. As expected, RIM plans to pump a lot of marketing dollars into BlackBerry 10. The early release shows this as the first BlackBerry 10 device will release slightly after the back-to-school and just before the Holiday markets. We’re also told the first BlackBerry 10 device with physical QWERTY keyboard is planned for an expected Q1 2013 release. Although, we’re unsure if this will be the BlackBerry 10 slider we’ve been hearing about. Nonetheless, we’re excited to hear that the first BlackBerry 10 device is pegged for an earlier than thought release! How do you feel about the first BlackBerry 10 device being touch-only?

We first heard of a BlackBerry 10 slider with the news of the device codenamed ‘Milan’. The ornamental design looked a bit rugged and vastly resembled the Porsche Design style. Our sources later informed us that RIM scrapped the Milan project, but it wasn’t clear if a BlackBerry 10 slider was still planned. Nonetheless, one of our sources tells us there is a new revision of a BlackBerry 10 slider. The new revision is internally codenamed R076. We’re told the new BlackBerry 10 slider features a curve design, which reminds us of the BlackBerry ‘Blade’ concept art we saw from an independent design firm sent to CB (pictured above). The thing about a BlackBerry 10 slider is that it makes sense. Depending on its aspect ratio, nearly all apps designed for the PlayBook could be compatible with a slider. It’s hard to imagine successful app compatibility on a normal QWERTY device, like a Bold. But, you shouldn’t rule out a BlackBerry 10 Bold device either. Keep it locked to N4BB as we continue to gain more info on the BlackBerry 10 slider.

A ways back we exclusively told you that RIM was working to release a BlackBerry PlayBook 3G+ (not LTE) by April. We later saw some leaked specs on the model to further confirm it was 3G+. Now, we’ve gotten wind from our source that the PlayBook 3G+ has finally gone to production. We’re not sure if Quanta Computer company is still the one manufacturing the PlayBook models. What we do know is April definitely sounds like it could be a solid release time-frame. A recap of the specs on the BlackBerry PlayBook 3G+: 1.5GHz dual-core processor 43Mbps HSPA+ Connectivity NFC ready 1GB RAM 32GB Flash Memory

We’ve been hearing for sometime now that the PlayBook OS is a transition into BlackBerry 10. What if that was only half truth? While the tablet OS has been the gateway to BlackBerry 10, it serves mostly to ensure a plentiful amount of apps once the BlackBerry 10 phones release. We’ve been told a juicy new detail about the upcoming BlackBerry 10 OS. Here’s what we’ve heard so far: BlackBerry 10 has a new 3D virtual keyboard built likely from TAT Cascades. The keyboard mimics the authentic physical BlackBerry keyboard. RIM is also working on implementing a vibration response when keys are hit. They’re calling it ‘vibration feedback’. We’re not sure how this might differ from what is commonly known as haptic feedback. Additionally, we’re told that BlackBerry 10 will literally utilize TAT Cascade animations in nearly everything. We’re only going to get a small glimpse in PlayBook OS 2 through 3, but will see it full-blown in BlackBerry 10. So far we’ve seen a small preview of this from those leaked BlackBerry 10 images. Our source also stated confidentially that PlayBook OS 3.0 is not BlackBerry 10. The new 3D keyboard will not be present, but TAT Cascades will begin deeper integration into the OS. There has been no mention of native BBM on PlayBook OS 3.0 at this time. Touching briefly on what the BlackBerry 10 OS is being tested on, our source said it is in an unmarked shell, with a form factor resembling the Samsung Galaxy S2. Otherwise, is similar to what we’ve seen in the leaked slide. We are super pumped for BlackBerry 10. The utilization of TAT Cascades in nearly all areas of the OS will up the ante in the mobile space. Great things seem to be in the works, which will likely make those who left the BlackBerry platform salivate in the mouth to return. Make sure you keep it locked to N4BB for more insider info on BlackBerry 10, PlayBook OS 3.0, and much more!

One of our sources let us in on a little secret. Actually, it is a fairly ‘top’ secret. RIM has apparently already started working on PlayBook OS 3.0. This news comes before RIM has even officially released PlayBook OS 2.0. Nevertheless, it is a good sign that the company is rapidly working to enhance the tablet OS in preparation for BlackBerry 10. Details on PlayBook OS 3.0 are slim at this point, but we’ll do what we do best to get you all of the juicy details. What could be in PlayBook OS 3.0? Perhaps PlayBook OS 3.0 will utilize TAT cascades in a more robust manner. Maybe we’ll finally see the release of BBM, since it will be absent in the release of OS 2.0. Or, we could see PlayBook OS 3.0 be the true evolution into BlackBerry 10, which will then unite both phone and tablet. Whatever the case may be, keep it locked to N4BB for more info!

Last week we saw a 2012 roadmap leak, which included additional information we exclusively told you last month. The leaked slides captured a small glimpse at the Curve 9320 and Curve 9220. Both devices will be targeted for the emerging East Asia and Africa markets. Today, our source tells us the codenames for both devices. The Curve 9320 is codenamed ‘Armstrong’ and the Curve 9220 is ‘Davis’. The Curve 9320 looks to be releasing very soon. It is already at a carrier evaluation build of OS 7.1.0.242. While the new Curves may not be that ‘special’, they do introduce a new feature never before seen on a BlackBerry: a dedicated BBM button. This button will be located on the left side of the devices, giving you quicker access to the messenger you love.
