New reports claim that BlackBerry’s order visibility has extended 2 to 3 more quarters. This comes as BlackBerry intends to release 3 or 4 new devices in second half of 2013, according to sources in BlackBerry’s supply chain in Taiwan.

“BlackBerry’s first entry-level BlackBerry 10 model, the BlackBerry Q5, is expected to be launched in July, targeting the entry-level segment in Europe, Asia, Africa and the Middle East and Latin America,” says sources close to the matter.

Additionally, sources claim the BlackBerry Z10 and Q10 have maintained shipments of 1 million units per month. This volume is certainly helping BlackBerry maintain marketshare.

“The launch of BlackBerry Q5, which will come with a 3.1-inch touchscreen, dual-core processor and a QWERTY keyboard, will further ramp up shipment momentum for BlackBerry,” claim the sources.

With the rising shipment volumes at BlackBerry, major ODM and component suppliers in Taiwan, such as Wistron, Silitech Technology and Ichia Technologies look to benefit the sources have indicated.

“Wistron reportedly has landed orders for two entry-level models from BlackBerry, said the sources, adding that the ODM is expected to snap up 60% of smartphone orders to be released by BlackBerry in 2013,” said sources.

It will certainly be interesting to learn the shipment figures at the upcoming Q1 earnings on June 28th. One analyst has speculated that BlackBerry has shipped more than 5 Million BlackBerry 10 devices for the quarter.

BlackBerry’s Z10 is the victim of a critical bug, as the company has issued a security advisory. However, the bug is not with the BlackBerry 10 operating system itself, but with the BlackBerry Protect service.

The critical bug could be used to gain access to the phone, either physically or over Wi-Fi. As ArsTechnica points out, “A malicious application could take advantage of weak permission controls in BlackBerry Protect to reset the password on the Z10 or prevent the phone’s owner from remote-wiping it when the phone is lost.  If an attacker has the phone in hand, the bug in Protect could be used to gain access to the phone’s functionality and the owner’s personal data; the bug and a malicious application could be used to expose the phone over Wi-Fi and allow a user to pilfer files from the device.”

BlackBerry 10 was the first mobile platform to be US government approved with FIPS 104-2 certification. BlackBerry is apparently not too concerned about the immediate risks of the known vulnerability.

The vulnerability “…require a combination of a user installing a malicious application and then an attacker gaining access to the phone. The Wi-Fi attacks are only possible if the device’s owner has turned on Wi-Fi access.”

After reaching out to BlackBerry, they’ve given us this official statement:

“While we cannot comment on media reports regarding alleged government surveillance of telecommunications traffic, we remain confident in the superiority of BlackBerry’s mobile security platform for customers using our integrated device and enterprise server technology. Our public statements and principles have long underscored that there is no “back door” pipeline to that platform. Our customers can rest assured that BlackBerry mobile security remains the best available solution to protect their mobile communications.”

Once again, the company reiterates that they do not give direct access to any government. However, this still begs the question of how did the UK government attain data from the BlackBerry devices, if the leak holds true.

Partner and Pelephone Communications have announced today that they are launching the BlackBerry Z10 flagship device. Israeli customers from either carrier will be able to buy their brand new Z10 for a good price. Partner is offering it for NIS 3,170 including a 16GB memory card free of charge. Pelephone will sell the BlackBerry Z10 for NIS 3,030.

Since the Z10 it has seen great sales wherever it goes, and it’s been available in many countries around the globe since launch date. The Z10 is a 4G LTE device, packed with a 4.2 inch screen, and 16GB internal memory expansable with microSD, a dual-core 1.5GHz processor and a 8MP camera with the awesome timeshift feature.

Here’s a doozy for your Monday morning. BlackBerry has, willingly or accidentally, listed the BlackBerry PlayBook as one of the options for devices supported with BlackBerry OS 10.1.

You can easily find this by going to create or update an app in the BlackBerry Vendor Portal and then choosing the supported version of BlackBerry 10. Low and behold, you will see the PlayBook as an option alongside the other BB10 devices.

Now, this could be one of three things: a mishap by a lazy web programmer, a sign that the PlayBook will get an OS 10.1 update, or credible evidence that we could expect a PlayBook 2.

Either way, it’s definitely going to spark some debate. Sound off in the comments with what you believe this could signify.

Coming up on June 28th, BlackBerry will announce their Q1 results. Estimates as to the success of BlackBerry 10 have been equally mixed.

The results of Q1 are essential for investors who will be looking for evidence to decide where the company’s future may lead. However, as Michael Blair on Seeking Alpha points out, the results may be quite good.

Blair has shown updated charts from StatCounter Global to present only the June 16, 2013 data for Canada, the United Kingdom and South Africa markets that were among the first to receive BlackBerry 10.

It was found that according to StatCounter’s data, “BlackBerry has displaced Android as the second most popular mobile OS in the country with a remarkable recovery to an approximately 30% market share.”

In the United Kingdom, “BlackBerry has emerged with a strong third place in the United Kingdom with an 18% percent share of market.” As for South Africa, “BlackBerry is the number one OS in South Africa, holding a commanding 40% share of market.”

As for the United States, Blair says there is very little data other than the publicly announced sale of 1 million BlackBerry 10 devices. We’ll certainly know soon enough on June 28th. However, if these figures hold true, investors will likely begin to look at the outlook rather than the quarter.

You may have been following the NSA debacle taking place in the US. It’s beginning to spread throughout the world as allegations claim other governments have partaken in the PRISM program.

A new claim has surfaced that alleges the UK Government Communications Headquarters managed to penetrate the security on delegates’ BlackBerry smartphones while hosting foreign politicians and officials during two Group of 20 summit meetings in London in 2009.

Email messages and phone calls were allegedly monitored, according to “top secret” documents uncovered by the NSA whistleblower.

However, BlackBerry has been the pinnacle of mobile security, which is why governments and corporations around the world have chosen the platform.

If these allegations prove true, it could suggest that BlackBerry was either working with the government or its system had been unknowingly accessed by a third-party.

The documents in the Guardian report were cited as saying, “New converged events capabilities against BlackBerry provided advance copies of G20 briefings to ministers… Diplomatic targets from all nations have an MO of using smartphones. Exploited this use at the G20 meetings last year.”

We’ve reached out the BlackBerry and are awaiting their response. It will certainly be interesting to see how these new allegations play out. Lets hope they’re proven untrue. Otherwise, these new revelations in the security of BlackBerry devices may have a negative impact on their future.

You might have seen people talking about the new Yeezus album leak. This is Kanye West’s 6th and latest 10 track album, which evidently found its way onto the internet before store shelves on June 18th.

Nevertheless, Kanye West gave a small shout-out to BlackBerry. Well, more of a mention. Though, it’s great to see such an iconic brand remain in the mainstream.

Carriers in the UK, Orange and T-Mobile, have begun taking order for the BlackBerry Q5 each is offering the phone for free with a 2-year, £26/month ($41/month) plan.

The retailer Unlocked-Mobiles is selling the phone contract-free for a steep £350 ($550), and says it will ship on July 15. To a large extent, the mid-range Q5 was created with emerging markets in mind.

• Deleting My Own Channel – Users may now delete their own Channels from the device. The Channel will be deleted from any subscriber’s devices as well.

The updates include a new drop down selection, ability to delete individual searches, ability to “pin” apps (like bookmarks), and ability to see pinned apps and recently viewed apps in My World.

BlackBerry shares are up 6% (as of this writing) after Societe Generale analyst Andy Perkins made positive note on the company. Perkins has changed his rating on the stock to Buy and gives it a price target of $17 from $13.

The higher rating comes after Perkins’ checks show sales of the BlackBerry Z10 and Q10 may have done better than most expect. “In total, we believe that Blackberry 10 handsets could record sales in excess of 5m units,” says Perkins.

“We believe that this is above consensus which is between 3m and 4m units for the quarter; As for the older units, we still believe there is demand for the 9220, 9320 and 9900 handsets but that this is falling rapidly.”

BlackBerry promised that by June the BlackBerry 10.2 SDK Beta would be available. Today is that day with the updates including additions to the BlackBerry 10 Native SDK  and both the Android and Adobe AIR run-times.

On the Dev Blog, BlackBerry describes the new 10.2 SDK Beta:

The updates to the run-times have been ones that have had a lot of anticipation. Adobe AIR 3.5 brings with it Stage3D for accelerated OpenGL graphics and the Android run-time upgrade brings it up to Android 4.2 (Jelly Bean) compatibility. As with any beta, this is a work in progress as we work our way towards the gold release of the BlackBerry 10.2 SDK. Known issues will be outlined in the release notes for each run-time.

There are also BlackBerry 10.2 SDK OS updates for BlackBerry 10 Dev Alpha B and C testing devices as well as the BlackBerry 10.2 SDK OS updates available for those who have BlackBerry Z10 and BlackBerry Q10 smartphones. All updates can be performed via the autoloader tool. Again, this is an SDK OS beta that is a trimmed down version of the BlackBerry 10.2 Operating System and is meant to provide a testing environment for you to try out the new SDK and experiment with the added capabilities that have been released. We have also released BlackBerry 10.2 SDK OS updates for the simulator. For this first release, Android 4.2 Jelly Bean testing is not yet supported in the simulator.

BlackBerry will soon release BBM to iOS and Android. Many people believe BlackBerry Messenger to have been BlackBerry’s one and only staple point feature against the competing platforms.

Furthermore, BlackBerry announced that BBM for iOS and Android will be free. Though, they never mentioned if there will be ways to monetize the service.

In our editorial, we detail why BlackBerry will be keeping BBM free for those platforms and how the Channels feature will be one of the ways they will monetize BBM.

A new survey from BlackBerry’s Beta Zone lends credence to this notion. The survey polls users regarding a ‘sponsored invite’ service within BBM Channels. You could think of it as the way a Twitter sponsored tweet or Facebook sponsored status works.

BlackBerry details the service in the survey:

Channel owners will be allowed to advertise their Channels by sending invites to BBM users within the channel owner’s target demographic.  Users will receive the invite, and be able to preview the Channel, then choose to subscribe or decline the invitation to subscribe.  This will be a limited ad unit, with users never receiving more than 3 sponsored invites in a single month.

So let the downloading commence! Today the third largest US wireless provider began to roll out the BB10.1 OS for the BlackBerry Z10. This is an OTA download and the version is 10.1.0.2006.

Its a very good sign from T-Mobile and we hope it leads to more carriers releasing the update especially for our Verizon friends who are still stuck at 10.0.9.xxx.

OS 10.2 was leaked, but we haven’t been lucky enough to have it in our hands. What we do have, though, are the bar files for the native BlackBerry 10.2 OS apps, including the browser, clock, camera and Facebook app. You can sideload these apps to your BlackBerry Z10 or Q10 device to try them out.

There aren’t many changes on these apps, mostly you’ll only see some new stuff on the Facebook app, which has two bar files that need to be sideloaded together for it to work. Try them out, let us know what you think and if you find anything new.

As you all know by now, BlackBerry will be releasing their BBM app to other platforms, which will increase the amount of users on BBM by… well, a LOT. Enough to get many big advertisers interested in the new BBM Channels network. And yes, I know what you might be thinking: “Ads?! We hate ads!” but that’s just a way of BlackBerry being able of generating revenue from BBM without making it a paid app for other platforms.

BlackBerry has pushed out a new update to the BlackBerry Link software for both Mac and Windows. Windows version 1.1.1.26 and Mac version 1.1.1.13 are now available for download.
