You may have seen our report that BlackBerry Mexico had let it slip or mistakenly thought that BlackBerry 10 will be coming to the PlayBook soon.

A new video has popped up showcasing the BlackBerry 10 operating system running on a BlackBerry PlayBook. Although, it simply looks to be “fan made” by a developer.

Nonetheless, the developer says he is actively working to bringing BlackBerry 10 to the PlayBook. Other than the boot screen, nothing else seems to be working, but the developers says “haven’t [yet] completed the procedure that I planned put in my head” to make BB10 fully work on the tablet.

Check out the video below. If BlackBerry doesn’t officially roll out BlackBerry 10 to the PlayBook, perhaps an adventurous developer can fill the void.

BlackBerry is baking in direct 3rd party game controller support in Unity. This allows game controllers from MOGA and SteelSeries to be used with a BlackBerry Z10 when playing a supported game.

The controllers do sync to the BlackBerry Z10 via USB, but exhibit no latency. For the MOGA controller, there is a dedicated “holster” to enclose the device.

We sat down with BlackBerry’s gaming R&D guru, Sean Paul Taylor, to give a full walkthrough of the currently supported 3rd party gaming controllers. Check them out in the video below:

Otterbox was on hand at BlackBerry Live 2013 to showcase their new cases for the BlackBerry Z10 and Q10.

The company has brought their signature cases such as Defender and Commuter. Defender series is for some serious protection, while the Commuter case is for more mild protection.

BlackBerry has officially announced the BlackBerry Q5 for emerging markets. The Q5 is essentially a low-end version of the Q10. Hence, the name reflecting it is half of the Q10.

Specs for the Q5 show it will have 2GB RAM, 2MP front-facing camera, 5MP rear camera, 1.2GHz Dual-core Processor, 8GB internal memory, an LCD versus OLED, and no HDMI out port.

The Q5 will be available in color variations pink, red, white, and black. Check out our hands-on of the Q5 below:

BlackBerry has seen strong sales since the Z10 has launched. More recently, have seen excellent reception of the Q10. BlackBerry 10 certainly seems to be a winner thus far.

With BlackBerry OS 10.1 comes the reintroduction of PIN to PIN messaging. BlackBerry did not include the functionality in the first release of BlackBerry 10.

PIN to PIN messaging has come under certain scrutiny as of late. “PIN-to-PIN messaging bypasses all corporate e-mail security filters, and thus users may become vulnerable to viruses and malware code as well as spam messages if their PIN becomes known to unauthorized third parties,” said a memo from Canadian federal department charged with overseeing cyber-security.

Although, PIN to PIN messaging is still secure, it just bypasses any rules that a BES admin may set. Nonetheless, lets have a look at this simple way of messaging amongst BlackBerry devices:

Skype has officially been launched for BlackBerry 10. Though, it is currently only a preview build, which is available for the BlackBerry Q10.

However, if you’re like me and have a Dev Alpha C, you can still run the app. However, it’s no where near as fluid as on an actual Q10.

Voice Controls have been a nice addition to BlackBerry 10. It can assist in simple tasks like sending BBM, email, scheduling a task, and setting an alarm.

We previously showed you how Voice Controls functioned on the BlackBerry Z10. Now, with the BlackBerry Q10 on the verge of releasing, we want to show you how to use Voice Controls on a QWERTY device.

For all intents and purposes we’ve used a BlackBerry 10 Dev Alpha C. However, it is using a full version of BlackBerry OS 10.1. As you may know, the Dev Alpha C is essentially a Q10 with a different shell. What you see in the video you can expect to be the same experience on a Q10.

The BlackBerry 10 devices utilizing OLED screens have a native dark theme. BlackBerry redesigned a few of the native applications to make use of the dark theme.

One of those redesigned apps was the native clock. The dark clock looks pretty sleek. Besides the color inversion, the only other change is the timer has been redesigned.

Ok, ok, so we didn’t actually use a BlackBerry Q10 for this battle video. Niko will be doing that later. However, we used a BlackBerry Dev Alpha C with a full version of BlackBerry OS 10.1.

The device is essentially a Q10 in a different shell. The results would not be any different if we had used a Q10 retail version. Nonetheless, we pitted the browser of the Dev Alpha C against the BlackBerry Z10. The Dev Alpha C may have had an unfair advantage, as the browser found in the 10.1 build is much higher than the one on the Z10.

Which device do you think will have the fastest browser? It’s said the Q10 is supposed to render webpages quicker since it has lesser pixels. Check it out for yourself in the video below:

BlackBerry OS 10.1 features a new HDR setting in the native camera app. It’s nice that BlackBerry has put on themselves to offer features such as this.

It’s matching what some of the other operating system OEMs have built into their platform. However, once you’ve snapped a photo with the HDR setting you can further alter with the native photo editing app.

Niko has the BlackBerry Q10, but I have the Dev Alpha C. However, mine is also running a full version of OS 10.1, which essentially makes it a Q10 in away. They’re the same, just the Dev C has the robotic-looking shell.

The BlackBerry Q10, and likely other future BlackBerry 10 QWERTY devices, feature a unique feature dubbed ‘Instant Actions’.

This is a time-saving feature that allows you to type and perform tasks faster by using shortcuts. From the Home screen, you can simply start typing to search, or type “email John” to compose a message.

Together, the classic BlackBerry Keyboard and Instant Action make it easy for commands to be taken quickly and directly from the Home screen. Check it out in the video below:

The BlackBerry Q10 is arguably a beefed up BlackBerry Bold 9900. The Q10 closely resembles its predecessor in ornamental design. Though, as you may know features the robust BlackBerry 10 operating system, much better hardware, and a keyboard with straight frets.

Skype is officially releasing for BlackBerry 10. However, it is currently only available for the BlackBerry Q10. Though, within two weeks, Skype will be available for the BlackBerry Z10.

The BlackBerry 10 Skype app is an Android port. Although, BlackBerry worked closely with Microsoft to make Skype a more customized Android port. Hopefully Skype will do exceptionally well and it will push Microsoft to begin developing a native version.

BlackBerry will be introducing the first-ever dark theme for a BlackBerry 10 device. The BlackBerry Q10 will be the first official BB10 device to offer a dark theme.

The reason behind this is due to the Q10, and future BlackBerry 10 devices, use OLED screen. Whereas, the BlackBerry Z10 uses an LCD screen.

The idea behind a dark theme is for lowering power consumption. Thus, resulting in better battery life. OLED works much differently than LCD. You can see more about the difference here.

Check out the video below and let us know which theme you prefer. If you’re a fan of the light theme, you’ll unfortunately not be too happy to know the Z10 may be the only one to utilize it.

There’s been a pretty big debate on which keyboard can be used to type the fastest. Many advocates for the physical QWERTY keyboards say they don’t even have to look at the keyboard to type.

While others who enjoy virtual keyboards believe they can type faster given the autocorrect of touch input. This is where the keyboard determines which keystroke you meant to do.

Nonetheless, we’ve taken a BlackBerry Z10 and pinned it against the keyboard on the BlackBerry 10 Dev Alpha C. The physical QWERTY found on the Dev Alpha C is nearly identical to the one on the BlackBerry Q10, making it a fairly accurate comparison.

While the STL100-2 features the Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Plus (SoC) dual-core 1.5GHz and Adreno 225 GPU. If you watch the video above you can see the STL100-1 with the OMAP 4470 (device in white) is significantly slower than the STL100-2.

The batteries, SIM card slot, and MicroSD card slots are all positioned differently with each device. The US/Canada have gotten the STL100-2 with the Snapdragon, while other regions receive the STL100-1 with the OMAP 4470.
