BBM for iPhone and Android have officially been out for 24 hours, and to say that the rollout was a success is an understatement. The app has been downloaded over 10 million times in only one day.
Not only that, but the app is receiving some great praise on the Google Play Store, with 60,000 out of 87,000 of the reviews being a five star rating. For the mathematically uninclined, that’s just under 70%.
BBM reached the #1 most downloaded app in over 75 countries, including the US, Canada, UK, Indonesia, and a majority of the middle east.
As far as I know, and I know quite a bit about what’s happening in the tech world, I’ve never seen an app reach 10 million downloads in 24 hours. I think the closest competition was Angry Birds Space when it was originally released, and that took a little under three days. Of course, I may be wrong. Let me know in the comments below if another app has achieved a greater success in a shorter amount of time.
It’s comforting to know that on a day when Apple released a huge lineup of new products that are certain to be all over the headlines of a majority of mainstream and tech sites alike, that BlackBerry has some good news of their own to share. Typically we counter the competition with more doom and gloom. Finally, BlackBerry can boast a little bit!
