Adobe announced this week the death of Flash Player for mobile devices. Although, they did promise to release one final version, which looks to address 12 ‘critical’ security flaws. Adobe has made Flash Player 11.1 available for the BlackBerry PlayBook. RIM also announce their continued support for Adobe Flash on the PlayBook and other BlackBerry platforms. Adobe has also stated on their blog, “Adobe will continue to ship security updates for Flash Player mobile after the final feature release…”, but did not specify for how much longer.

How do you feel about the death of Flash Player for mobile? HTML5 is the new standard for web and mobile web apps. Should RIM continue to support Flash or just let it go? Be on the lookout for a PlayBook OS update, as I’m sure RIM will likely want to patch those Flash Player security flaws.
