Barclays Bank has announced the release of their new Pingit app for BlackBerry, which allows users to transfer money using just a mobile number. Pingit will at first only be available to Barclays’ current account customers but the firm said a second version of the application to be launched in March will allow customers with any bank to use the service.
The service will be free and works by linking a phone number to a current account, with the security of the application provided by a five-digit pin that users enter before making a payment. The minimum payment that can be made is £1, up to a maximum of £300, and there is a £300 total daily send limit and a £5,000 total daily receive limit.
For current Barclays Bank customers in the UK, you can download the app from App World here.
