During Research In Motion’s Q3 2013 earnings call, CEO Thorsten Heins mentioned the company is looking at ways to have BlackBerry Messenger provide additional service revenue.

How could BBM add to RIM’s service revenue? There are a few possible scenarios, but the most likely is expanding BBM into a cross-platform messenger.

There were previous rumors that RIM had been working on BBM. Though, RIM quickly denied such work. However, RIM seems to be very confident in BlackBerry 10.

Perhaps RIM would be willing to provide a free version of BBM with limited features to other platforms. Then allow for a premium subscription to open up a more robust feature set.

Of course, that is pure speculation. What ways do you think RIM could generate service revenues from BBM?
