Initial BlackBerry 10 slides and first looks showed the OS to have square app icons. Then, BlackBerry changed their minds and allowed for non-uniform icons for apps, but had a gray transparency behind the icons.

Many users have voiced their opinion of distaste towards the look of the icons. I even tweeted that I wished BlackBerry would allow for an option to toggle the backgrounds back in August:

It seems BlackBerry has listened to such feedback. According to a tweet from BlackBerry product manager, Michael Clewley, BlackBerry will allow the removal of the gray transparency behind apps in OS 10.2.1.

It will be interesting to see if BlackBerry has completely removed the gray transparency or if in fact you will be able to toggle it on/off. Or, give it even further customizability with changing the transparency level and/or changing the color of the background.

Thanks Cam!
