The other day we reported on a BlackBerry Jam Direct virtual event. BlackBerry held the developer focussed event to discuss the upcoming Android Jellybean 4.2.2 runtime in BlackBerry 10.2.1.

Since BlackBerry OS leaked, it would seem that BlackBerry was well on their way into development of 10.2.1, with an official launch sometime soon.

We might see BlackBerry 10.2.1 become official as soon as January 2014 for all BlackBerry 10 devices. One of our readers attended the virtual event and asked the following:

Caleb Squires: I heard blackberry will release an update in January that will allow all BB10 devices running 10.2.1 to directing install android apk files, is that true?

Justin Jasmann (BlackBerry – Android): That is true, yes.

It will be interesting to see if BlackBerry will make the January launch of 10.2.1 (hopefully on the 25th for my birthday). Or, at the very least we can likely expect 10.2.1 to become official in Q1 2014.

Thanks Caleb!
