RIM has just announced that  BlackBerry smartphones running the lastest OS, BlackBerry 7 and BlackBerry 7.1, have been awarded FIPS 140-2 certification by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and the Communications Security Establishment Canada (CSEC), also recognized by the United States and Canadian governments.

We’ve all known BlackBerry to be always on top with security, with OS 7 having earned the Common Criteria EAL4+ certification, and back in July when the BlackBerry PlayBook became the first tablet to receive the FIPS 140-2 certification.
