One of the biggest concerns I had with the announcement of the Amazon Appstore was that a malicious Android app could sneak its way into one of our devices. Thankfully, BlackBerry being the leader in security that they are have come up with a new way to ensure our protection for this type of malware.
Today at the BlackBerry Security Summit, BlackBerry announced BlackBerry Guardian. This new Guardian will “automatically check all Android apps that customers install on their BlackBerry smartphones.” This new service will includes apps from the Amazon Appstore and apps installed from other sources such as direct installs through the browser or downloads.
The BlackBerry Guardian will be available for free to users starting with BlackBerry Passport, BlackBerry Classic and future BlackBerry 10 devices. If you currently have a BlackBerry 10 device, BlackBerry Guardian will be available with a future OS update. No word on whether that will be 10.3 or later.
