BlackBerry may have taken a hit in the consumer sector, but governments and corporations are still sticking beside the tech giant. Despite growing competition from IBM, Apple and other MDM providers, the German government is keeping their vote to BlackBerry.
Germany’s Federal Ministry of the Interior said it wants more of its officials using encrypted BlackBerry smartphones. Currently, the Ministry is using 3,000 encrypted BlackBerry devices bundled with Secusmart to make them less susceptible to eavesdropping.
More and more BlackBerry devices are constantly being purchased, said interior ministry spokesman Tobias Plate in an interview with Financial Post. “We have a federal authority for information security and they checked several smartphones, and the only brand that was approved by them is the BlackBerry smartphones… It’s the security of the device,” Plate said.
“BlackBerry has a long history providing secure mobility solutions across mission critical industries such as government, financial services, healthcare, and other security and productivity-focused sectors including all G7 nations and 16 of the G20 countries,” said a BlackBerry spokesperson.
