In an interview with CNBC at the Milken Institute Global Conference today, BlackBerry CEO John Chen was asked about how he intends to win customers back, and make them switch back to BlackBerry. The Achilles heel for BlackBerry, according to Chen, has been lack of apps to offer consumers, and he noted they are doing “two things about it.” Unfortunately, Chen said he’s not at liberty to discuss what he’s doing “beyond that Amazon App[store],” but when pressed by the interviewer a little more, he revealed there’s definitely “something brewing.”
Aside from that, Chen mentioned the already-known focus on enterprise apps and security as well. BlackBerry hopes to be at the forefront of apps in the IoT world – like in the healthcare industry, for example – and with their resources being pointed in that direction, they’re definitely setting themselves up for success.
