*UPDATE* RIM has squashed this rumored release date. However, this does not mean we won’t see BBM hit iOS or other platforms in the future.
A few weeks back rumors broke that RIM was looking to take the BBM service to other competing platforms. If true, the only logical explanation would be to ‘entice’ the users of Android or iOS to enjoy BBM with hopes they’d get a BlackBerry for BBM’s entire feature set. A new rumor has been unveiled from the MacRumors forums by a user who claims RIM’s co-CEO Jim Balsillie accidentally stated, at a social media conference in Toronto, that BBM would hit iOS on April 26th.
Allegedly, Balsillie also said that other services would eventually make its way to the iOS platform. These other services could likely be BBM Groups, calendars, location sharing, and more. It will be quite interesting to see if these rumors come to fruition. We can’t see this move helping draw new subscribers to the BlackBerry platform (if anything it will deter people in our opinion), what do you think?
