Ever since BlackBerry CEO Thorsten Heins revealed the company would not uphold their promise to bring BlackBerry 10 to the PlayBook, many have wondered what will come of the tablet.
Developers had been waiting to bring their BlackBerry 10 apps to the tablet. However, with no BlackBerry 10 scheduled for release, those hopefuls cried for at least the core updates (Cascades, Browser, Android runtime, etc.).
Unfortunately, BlackBerry VP of Developer Relations, Alec Saunders, confirmed via Twitter that the BlackBerry PlayBook will not receive any significant updates.
Saunders defended the decision in response to one developer saying, “you’d be unhappy. PlayBook doesn’t have the capability to run BB10 acceptably.”
Despite the pleas from many unhappy customers, the decision to cancel BlackBerry 10 for the PlayBook seems set in stone. The only updates you may likely see for the PlayBook are small bug and/or security fixes. Otherwise, consider the PlayBook dead.
