We’ve been hearing for quite sometime that BlackBerry PlayBook OS 2.1 would be releasing soon. Turns out, PlayBook Product Manager, Michael Clewly, tweeted that we can expect to see the 2.1 beta by the end of May. That means we can expect it to drop this week!

Here’s what will be in BlackBerry PlayBook OS 2.1…

  • Portrait Email, Contacts & Calendar.
  • App World carrier shell.
  • Bridge texting & wi-fi transport support.

Developers:

  • Android multi-tasking.
  • Camera API & In App Payments

IT Administrators:

  • Over-the-air actuvation over Mobile Fusion.
  • Personal Encryption.

The BlackBerry PlayBook OS 2.1 beta will be rolled out in similar fashion as OS 2. You will need to register your PlayBook’s PIN and then will be able to see the new OS update available when checking for new updates from the PlayBook.
