BlackBerry Priv Marshmallow Update

BlackBerry has announced a new BlackBerry Priv Marshmallow beta program that allows enthusiastic users to test out the latest software on their device.

Recently, BlackBerry reported that the Marshmallow update for Priv would be available in May. Now, BlackBerry has started a new program that will allow users to test Marshmallow on Priv and report bugs. The company wants a bug free rollout of Android 6.0 for BlackBerry Priv in May.

The BlackBerry Priv originally came with Android 5.1 Lollipop and the device was released around the same time as Android 6.0 Marshmallow. Users of the Priv have been asking the company to update the device to Marshmallow, and it looks like they’ve heard them.

If you’re desperate to try out a beta build of BlackBerry Priv Marshmallow update, then you can now do so. To do so, you’ll have to sign up for the beta program at the BlackBerry Beta Zone. As of now, the program is full, but you can still join the waiting list.

To be eligible for the program, you need to own a BlackBerry Priv, obviously. The device must be purchased from Amazon, Carphone Warehouse or ShopBlackBerry. If you purchased your Priv from somewhere else, you can still join, but you may not get accepted. Once you’re accepted, you will receive the Android 6.0 beta build via an OTA update.

Once the update is installed, you’ll have to enable the background diagnostic reports in Settings. This way, BlackBerry engineers can collect important data that can be used to fix bugs, etc. A BlackBerry Bug Reporter app will also be available to users for reporting bugs, issues and providing feedback.

The company did mention that the program only has limited space, but one can still join as the program is said to grow. Invitations to download the beta update will be sent out this week for the first batch of participants. Registrations are still open and will end in a another 10 -15 days. The Marshmallow beta will last for 4-8 weeks, after which a stable version will be released for all.

Head to the BlackBerry Beta Zone to register and enroll for the BlackBerry Priv Marshmallow beta update program.
