Back in 2011, BlackBerry acquired Scoreloop, and about three years later, the company has decided to shut it down. Many of you will remember Scoreloop’s integration in titles like Run In Crowd, which brought a social aspect to gaming on the PlayBook and eventually BlackBerry 10.

Scoreloop has now sent out a notice it is bringing its services to a halt towards the end of the year. Developers that use Scoreloop in their games or apps must “remove any calls to the Scoreloop SDK from your BlackBerry 10 applications prior to Dec 1, 2014. Additionally, the Scoreloop SDK for BlackBerry will cease to be available as part of the BlackBerry 10 SDK as of 10.3.1.”

The change for Scoreloop shouldn’t come as much of a surprise. It was originally acquired to be integrated into the BB10 platform as yet another aspect for consumer appeal. With John Chen making BlackBerry’s recent focus shift to enterprise, Scoreloop was pretty much useless. The Scoreloop letter is available in its entirety below.
