BlackBerry officially announced the R-Series at BlackBerry Live by unveiling the BlackBerry Q5. This device is essentially a scaled down version of the BlackBerry Q10.
The BlackBerry Q5 will have a price point which makes it competitive in emerging markets. Though, that tidbit of information is still unknown at this time.
What about the BlackBerry Z10? Will BlackBerry ever make a scaled down version of it? You might think so, given how they made the Curve 9380, which was an all-touch Curve device.
You could say that the Curve 9380 was a scaled down version of the Torch 9860, given it had lesser specs on the screen and processor.
Inquiring directly, we’ve been led to believe that there won’t be a BlackBerry Z5. In fact, it has been implied that once the BlackBerry 10 ‘Aristo’ arrives, the Z10 will at that point get a price point reduction making it competitive enough for any market.
BlackBerry’s CEO, Thorsten Heins, has even said himself that he’s excited for the next all-touch flagship BlackBerry 10 device. Given this information it’s hard to see BlackBerry waste R&D dollars at an even lesser specced Z device.
What say you? Do you believe BlackBerry will muster up an all-touch BlackBerry 10 device that will encompass less specs than the Z10 and have a price target for all emerging markets? Sounds off in the comments.
