I was a little worried that I would not be able to make it to this year’s BlackBerry Jam Asia. Luckily, I caught that my passport was expiring soon and my trip to Hong Kong would have been on less than the 6 month expiry time.
Fortunately, I was able to get my new US passport issued in time, despite living abroad in Australia. This will be my second Jam Asia attendance, as I was at last year’s in Bangkok, Thailand.
Jam Asia will certainly be quite interesting this year. There are many new things we could expect to see at the developers conference. We will almost certainly see BlackBerry discuss multi-platform BBM, which looks to be launching this week.
Additionally, the company will likely discuss the improvements and new features found in BlackBerry OS 10.2, which will hopefully begin its official rollout during the Jam Asia conference.
What I’m most interested in seeing is the BlackBerry Z30. Although, I’m not holding my breath for an official unveiling. Jam Asia is meant for developers, which unveiling a new product might not make too much sense.
However, the Z30 is going to be sporting a 5″ screen. Therefore, while I’m not expecting to see the Z30 announced, BlackBerry might briefly confirm the device by explaining how developers apps will transition with the screen.
We saw BlackBerry do this at Jam Europe with the BlackBerry Q10 by getting developers’ apps appropriately sorted for the 720×720 resolution with the aid of the Dev Alpha C. Developers attending Jam Asia 2013 will also have the opportunity to receive a Dev Alpha C.
Of course, you can expect the obvious with there to be more than 50 breakout sessions that focuses on:
- Leveraging the mobile computing opportunity – learn about apps that sense, understand and adapt to our needs and situational context to create connected mobile experiences
- Building a business on BlackBerry – learn how startups and established organizations alike can partner with BlackBerry to build a business on the BlackBerry 10 platform
- Built for BlackBerry. The signature BlackBerry 10 experience – The Built for BlackBerry designation indicates to customers the signature, stand-out BlackBerry 10 experience
I’m eagerly anticipating Jam Asia 2013 in Hong Kong. Last year’s Jam Asia was a huge success, which saw a record breaking turn out in Bangkok. Be sure to keep it locked to N4BB next week as we’ll be covering everything from the event.
