We have seen many flying cars on movies like Back to the Future 2 and Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. Companies like Terrafugia and AeroMobil have invested millions of dollars to make this a reality and today, you can have your own private flying car if you can afford it.

At $400,000, you can choose to be like Trump and buy a Rolls Royce Phantom, or you can get one of these amazing flying cars.

This dream has been made a reality by Pal-V, a Dutch company that has been working on making a practical flying car design for decades. Other companies have made flying cars in the past but this is the first one to pass all safety regulations and standards for both driving and flying.

This means that you will be able to register it and get your very own James Bond moment. Some people will argue that the Pal-V Liberty is more of a motorcycle than a car because of the three wheels. Well, call it whatever you will, but it flies and it drives. It’s more like a compact, flying Reliant Robin.

When on the car mode, the Pal-V Liberty is 4m long, 2m wide and 1.7m high (13.12 feet by 6.56 feet by 5.57 feet). This means that you can park it literally everywhere. Even a small parking garage with a low ceiling will easily hold it.

There are two versions of the Pal-V Liberty that are currently being offered. The first is the Pal-V Liberty Pioneer Edition that will cost $599,000. This is a limited edition model and only 90 of these vehicles will ever be made.

It comes with all the options that a Pal-V Liberty can have. They include unique exterior and interior finishing, dual controls and power heating. You also get lots of customization options that will only be available on the Pioneer edition.

The second version is the Pal-V Liberty Sport that will be selling at $399,000. This is intended for customers who are simply looking for the joy of flying a car. Some of the options available in the Pioneer edition like power heating and dual controls can be added.

However, you will still have to wait for the production of the Pioneer Edition to complete before you can get your vehicle.

Show me the Numbers

So, is this flying car practical? Let’s take a look at the official numbers.

On the road, the company claims that this flying car can reach a top speed of 100 mph and on the air it can travel at air speeds of 112 mph. When driving, it will take you less than 9 seconds to get to 62 mph. It has a range of 817 miles on the road and 310 miles in the air. The range in the air does go down to 248 miles when it is loaded to maximum take-off capacity. On the road you will get a fuel economy of 31 miles to the gallon and 6.9 gallons per hour in the air.

To take off, you will need a stretch of 1082 feet when it is loaded to full capacity. Landing is easier since you will only roll a distance of 98 feet. The maximum altitude that this place can operate at is 11,480 feet.

Like most of the other flying cars, the Pal-V Liberty can only carry 2 passengers. The good news is that you will not need any special jet fuel to fly it. Fill it up with the same unleaded gasoline you use on your petrol car and it will work just fine. The tank can carry 26.4 gallons of fuel.

Tilting Cockpit on the Road

If you loved the idea of The Carver, you will enjoy driving the Pal-V Liberty even more. This is because the cockpit tilts around curves on the road to enhance maneuverability. It will also make you feel like you are in a sports car. You will need both a driving license and flying license to drive and fly the Pal-V.
