The Apple iPhone 6s and 6s Plus have officially launched today. Many people will likely pick up their device this weekend, but exactly how many? Foursquare thinks they may have the answer.
Foursquare believes Apple will sell between 13 million and 15 million iPhones this weekend. This prediction is based off foot traffic analyzed at Apple stores leading up to the launch of the iPhone 5, 5S, and 6 and combined it with Apple’s public sales data.
In the video above, Foursquare gives a visualization of what foot traffic for a normal week looks like at One Stockton Street Apple store in San Francisco.
Using the data, Foursquare predicts the store will see a 360 percent increase in foot traffic for a normal Friday. This prediction closely aligns with Apple’s own estimates, which predicts over 10 million units sold for the launch weekend.
Foursquare has aggregated user location data for the past six years spanning more than 7 billion check-ins at over 65 million places. This is the first time Foursquare has used this data to predict sales.
