Some troubling news coming out of the enterpise sector for RIM this week as Halliburton has announced that it will be “transitioning from the BlackBerry (RIM) platform that [they] currently use to smartphone technology via the iPhone.” It was reported that there are currently 4500 employees in the firm that use a BlackBerry.

This comes at at time when other large companies are looking to change their IT infrastructure and allow employees to move to other smartphones such as iPhone and Android.

Another interesting note is that a Halliburton spokesperson stated that the company “engaged with Apple on this transition.” With the forthcoming BlackBerry 10 operating system and the Mobile Fusion software, the ball will be in RIM’s court to reach out to their enterprise customers before they lose them.
