RIM has been threatened by the Indonesian Telecommunication Regulation Body (BRTI) over the location of a server. The BRTI is pretty upset that RIM decided to build a new server in Singapore, rather than in Indonesia. “Because RIM has not been cooperative, it is possible that we will soon end BIS (BlackBerry Internet Service) and BBM service. BlackBerry therefore, would just be like other cellular phones,” BRTI member Heru Sutadi said.

RIM promised the BRTI to build a new server or data center. However, they did not specify where. Once the new server was built in Singapore, the Indonesian government began to whine like little school girls in disbelief. Surely, RIM would put the new server in Indonesia where the most Southeast Asian BlackBerry users reside, right?! Wrong. “With the condition as it is now, we warn that the country’s users to be cautious about using BlackBerry because the data exchanged is not safe or cannot be guaranteed of its safety,” Heru added in reference to Indonesian users’ data passing through the server in Singapore.
