Over 400 million people use Instagram on a monthly basis, the company announced Tuesday afternoon. The Facebook-owned social network hit the new MAU figure less than a full year after announcing it had reached 300 million back in December of 2014.
According to Instagram, over 75% of its new 100 million users live outside of the U.S. Over 50 million users are found in Asia and Europe making it clear Instagram’s attractiveness is not an exclusively American thing. In fact, Brazil, Japan and Indonesia were the countries that most added to the new figures.
“When Instagram launched nearly five years ago, 400 million seemed like a distant dream,” wrote the company in a blog post. “Now, we continue to strive to improve Instagram — helping you experience the world through images and connect with others through shared passions.”
Instagram adds to the impressive total number of users on Facebook-owned apps like WhatsApp (900 million) and Messenger (700 million).
