Apple’s latest software for its iPhone and iPad is off to a pretty fast start. After only being released five days ago, iOS 9 has already been installed in over 50 percent of iDevices. These numbers, provided by Apple, reflect installs in both iPhones and iPads.
“iOS 9 is also off to an amazing start,” said Apple’s VP of Worldwide Marketing Philip Schiller. This latest version of iOS is “on pace to be downloaded by more users than any other software release in Apple’s history.” Apple has helped users have more confidence in its new software by making this latest download a lot smaller, and having it automatically temporarily remove apps to in order to upgrade.
This figure is even more impressive when you consider the number of users that have had issues updating to iOS 9 in the first place. Many iPhone owners have complained of “Software Update Failed” errors plaguing their installs. Maybe these problems have been sorted out enough to get more people on board with the most up to date iOS software.
This number will only increase as the week goes by. With the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus launch happening on Friday, even more iOS 9 devices will be in the wild after. We’ll see how close Apple can get to the coveted yet impossible 100% adoption rate.
