Last month, BlackBerry announced the upcoming “classic” BlackBerry Q20 smartphone. However, in the company’s official press release, they announced the BlackBerry Q20 would not release until sometime between August and September 2014.
Unlike the BlackBerry Z3, the company did not show off the BlackBerry Q20 during Mobile World Congress 2014 event. Currently, the BlackBerry Q20’s physical likeness has not been made public, except that it will reintroduce the “five button belt” feature.
Although, we might get an early glimpse of the BlackBerry Q20 device earlier than expected. That is, if Prem Watsa can persuade BlackBerry CEO John Chen.
Watsa, CEO at FairFax Financial Holdings and the largest shareholder in BlackBerry, recently released his company’s annual shareholders letter. The letter describes plans for the upcoming annual meeting held on April 9th, 2014.
Discussing non-insurance investments and their booths at the meeting, Watsa says he “may even be able to convince John Chen to raffle a couple of BlackBerry Classics (the Q20).”
Whether or not those winners of the Q20 raffle would be held under a NDA is unclear (that is if Chen even agrees). Nonetheless, it would be great to capture the sight of the upcoming BlackBerry Q20 even earlier than anticipated.
