The next title in the Tomb Raider franchise, “Rise of the Tomb Raider,” is set to release this year. However, at first it will be an Xbox exclusive.
Xbox console owners will get the title first, on November 10, 2015. Publisher Square Enix announced today that Windows 10 and Steam customers will be able to get Rise of the Tomb Raider in early 2016. Meanwhile, PS4 and PC users will have to wait until later in 2016.
“The game will be a console exclusive to Xbox One and Xbox 360 for one year after its initial launch, coming to PlayStation 4 (PS4) in Holiday 2016,” Square Enix said in a statement. “Renowned developer Crystal Dynamics, a Square Enix studio, is leading development in the latest entry in the iconic series for additional platforms.”
Square Enix says Lara Croft, in the Rise of the Tomb Raider, “must explore the most treacherous and remote regions of Siberia to find the secret of immortality before a ruthless organisation known as Trinity.” Lara will need to “form new alliances, and ultimately embrace her destiny as the Tomb Raider,” in order to survive.
Players will “experience high-octane action moments, conquer beautifully hostile environments, engage in brutal guerrilla combat, and explore awe-inspiring deadly tombs in the evolution of survival action,” Square Enix said.
To date, more than 42 million copies of the Tom Raider franchise has been sold worldwide, with the film adaptation garnering more than $300 million at the global box office.
