QNX today announced that its software has been deployed in the infotainment and telematics systems of more than 50 million vehicles, including brands such as Acura, Audi, BMW, Chrysler, Ford, GM, Honda, Hyundai, Jaguar, Land Rover, Maserati, Mercedes-Benz, Porsche, Toyota, and Volkswagen. Moreover, a new report from IHS Automotive names QNX as the premier software supplier in the infotainment market, with more than 50 percent market share.
“QNX Software Systems is the clear leader in automotive software, specifically for infotainment, and is forecasted to remain the leader for years to come – growing from more than 16 million units in 2013 to 56 million in 2020,” said Egil Juliussen, director of research, infotainment and ADAS, IHS Automotive.
More than 40 automotive OEMs now use QNX® software, including the QNX Neutrino® OS, the QNX CAR™ Platform for Infotainment, and QNX acoustics middleware, for their head units, handsfree systems, connectivity modules, and digital instrument clusters. Examples from the 2015 model year include the virtual cockpit in the Audi TT, the entertainment system in the Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe, and the new OnStar 4G LTE system for GM vehicles – a range of systems that reflects the sheer flexibility and scalability of QNX technology.
QNX Software Systems continues to extend its reach into the automotive market with a growing portfolio of products and services. These include the new QNX OS for Automotive Safety, an ISO 26262-certified OS that builds on the company’s deep experience in safety-critical applications to address the demand for digital instrument clusters, heads-up displays, and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS).
According to the IHS Automotive software platform report, “QNX has the largest coverage of processors, and all the major MCUs used in automotive can use the QNX software platform. Safety-critical certifications are also a QNX strength with the most certifications of all infotainment software platforms… In general QNX has the largest portfolio of OS and middleware features compared to its competitors. QNX tends to be the first to implement for emerging infotainment features; this happens because QNX hears the requirements early because of its large customer base and can quickly react to customer requests.”
