Thus far, Research In Motion has been relatively quiet regarding details of the Android app player due out for the BlackBerry PlayBook. However, it appears RIM is gearing up for 50 meetups with Android developers to promote the PlayBook. The official word:

Android Player for BlackBerry PlayBook is supporting 50 Meetups across the country to get the word out about converting your Android App to run on the BlackBerry Tablet OS and host it in BlackBerry World. They’re thrilled to have your Meetup participating in this program! In addition to having a local Blackberry rep come visit your Meetup, they’re making a financial investment in your Meetup Group over the next 3 months to help your Organizer make it even better!

35 meetups have been listed so far, with a total of 10,184 developer members. We’re pretty psyched to see RIM being proactive at pushing the Android app player for PlayBook to Android developers. We can only hope a few of those developers will put forth the effort to port their apps to BlackBerry.
