For quite some time many people said it was hard to develop apps for the BlackBerry platform, there weren’t enough users to download the apps, and developers wouldn’t make a profit. RIM’s new VP of developer relations, Alec Saunders, took the time to put an end to the myths.
Myth #1: BlackBerry Developers can’t make money.
Busted!: App World has more paid downloads than the Android Market and is the 2nd most profitable application space after Apple. 13% of BlackBerry developers have made over $100,000 from their apps in App World.
Myth #2: The BlackBerry market is shrinking.
Busted!: There are 70 million active BlackBerry users. That’s 20 million more than last year.
Myth #3: BlackBerry users don’t use apps.
Fact: There are between 4 and 5 million App World downloads each day. That’s 24 downloads per year, per user.
