BlackBerry CEO Teases ‘Something Is Brewing’ for Apps Beyond Amazon’s Appstore

In an interview with CNBC at the Milken Institute Global Conference today, BlackBerry CEO John Chen was asked about how he intends to win customers back, and make them switch back to BlackBerry. The Achilles heel for BlackBerry, according to Chen, has been lack of apps to offer consumers, and he noted they are doing “two things about it.” Unfortunately, Chen said he’s not at liberty to discuss what he’s doing “beyond that Amazon App[store],” but when pressed by the interviewer a little more, he revealed there’s definitely “something brewing.”

BlackBerry CEO John Chen Talks China, Enterprise with Bloomberg

BlackBerry CEO John Chen sat down with Bloomberg to talk about his latest trip to China which saw him meeting up with execs from Lenovo, HTC, and Xiaomi.

Among the typical things we’re used to hearing Chen talk about, he was asked about returning to the consumer space, and whether or not that was a necessity. BlackBerry’s CEO is confident that security, and enterprise is enough for now to keep the company growing, as it’s “a highly productive area for us.” He did note that once they’re in a comfortable position, you could see BlackBerry make a run at the consumer market again, adding, “Never say never.”

BlackBerry CEO Has No Buyout Offers, Aims To Build Value

John Chen sits this morning with Bloomberg, giving his update on the company’s fortunes as he navigates BlackBerry toward profitability during the quarter coming in March. When asked about “speculation” regarding buyout offers Chen quips, “I don’t have any offers on my desk…If people would like to talk, I mean, talk is not an offer.”

BlackBerry CEO At Code Conference: “We Have A Lot Of Problems, But We’re Not Dead”

During the inaugural Code Conference in California today, BlackBerry CEO John Chen went on stage to talk about the future of the company, and how he sees it going with Re/code’s Ina Fried and Walt Mossberg.
