While many may have already assumed this, John Chen has officially removed the “Interim” tag from his title as CEO of BlackBerry today. The announcement today was necessary because since taking over for Heins in November of last year, Chen had mentioned he’d be looking for a new CEO to eventually take over the reigns of BlackBerry, thus requiring the “interim CEO” title.

While this may still be the case way down the line, BlackBerry has ended its search for a CEO indefinitely as of today.  According to BlackBerry, the decision to keep John Chen on as permanent CEO was made to be able to keep the focus “on getting the company back onto firm, strategic and financial grounds.” Less distractions are always best, and Chen has demonstrated himself capable of handling the media, and having a solid plan moving forward these last two months.
