Twitter held their first ever developer’s conference, called Flight, this week, and unveiled a brand new service called Digits that they hope will revolutionize the way consumers handle their passwords.
Digits is a new way to sign in to your apps and social media networks directly from your phone. Essentially, you sign up or sign in to a supported app using your phone number. You will then receive a text message with a verification code, which will be entered in as the password.
While you may not see the relevance and usefulness of this at first glance, Twitter is hoping the two-step authorization will catch on quickly in developing markets where many end users only source of web access is their smart phone.
Twitter hopes to see app developers integrate Digits into their products and help end users find a better and much more efficient way to log in.
Digits is rolling out today in over 200 countries and two dozen languages. You can visit the official website for more information on how to integrate Digits into your apps.
