WhatsApp co-founder Jan Kourn is welcoming the new year with some great news for the messaging app. According to a post on his Facebook page, WhatsApp’s growth has continued as it now sits at 700 million monthly active users (up from 600 million in August). Kourn also adds that users are sending over 30 billion messages a day – an absolutely stunning figure.

Even though WhatsApp is now home to a massive user base, the company still doesn’t have any plans to monetize the messaging app for Facebook. This is consistent with comments made by Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg, who stated back in October that monetization wasn’t part of the plan until WhatsApp reached a billion monthly active users.

Based on WhatsApp’s growth rate, we could see that milestone reached sooner than expected.
