Poised to recommit themselves to their key developing markets, BlackBerry has launched the Z3 to much fanfare in India. Channel checks in the region show that uptake has been very reasonable, with initial inventories going dry within a couple short weeks of availability.

Industry insiders claim that approximately 30,000 Z3 units were imported to India to support the initial launch. “We’ve sold about 75 per cent of the stock that we got,” Himanshu Chakrawarti, chief executive at The Mobile Store told Economic Times India. “The Z3 has done well so far, benefiting from the easy installment options and discounts.”

We all understand that the market share volume game is one played across the long term, but it is still good to see the overall inventory risk has been minimized and that demand for the Z3 device seems consistent enough with Foxconn built hardware.

“It is true that we have been almost stocked out (for Z3),” said Sameer Bhatia, distribution director BlackBerry India, adding the BlackBerry has seen strong sales through the traditional retail store channel as well as online.
